Abby's POV
Today started great Liam didn't have a problem getting dressed or getting on the bus. He even slept through the night. The good day ended there once he got to school. He just wasn't having it all day today. He was non-compliant and just wasn't having it today and he had 4 accidents.
I had to pick him up from school on the 4th accident. It was my lunch so I picked him up from school, and got him a quesadilla and a dr. Pepper. I headed back to my suit hoping I would get there before my next client so I could set him up and then get ready for my client. They are all way more understanding than I gave them credit for before I told them.
Once Ashley told them I was a single mom with an autistic son who had just been diagnosed and was trying to figure everything out. This made most of my clients want to adjust to the changes I put into play to accommodate my son like his play/calming corner and the fact that he gets the TV and everyone treats him like family. The ones that didn't like my son had to come with me and threatened to leave me for someone else. I just let them go, I don't need "Karen" clients I only want understanding clients.
The rest of today is just hair appointments. I won't be all over the suit and that will help me with keeping an eye on Liam. When my mom can't watch him I have a sitter who watches him for me but that's usually when school is out during the week. I pulled up into my suit and we were the only ones there, I got Liam out of the car and we headed inside. I set up a small kids' table I have for him and I put on an ocean documentary for him.
Once he is settled I start setting up my next appointment for a haircut. As I finish getting the towels and drapes ready my client walks in. Samantha walks in and comes to me with a big smile on her face. She hugs me like we aren't neighbors or like she eats dinner at our house almost every night.
Her parents are very well-off. She asked them if she could work and finish out her senior year in an apartment that she is renting to see if she could do it on her own for college. She wanted to test-run it first before she left for school and had to do it all alone in a new town. Her parents agreed because she is a straight "A" student and a runner for valedictorian.
Her parents wanted to put her in a better place but she told them she needed to be in a place she could afford. Her parents put some extra money in her bank account trying to help her think she can afford better. She knows that they put it in her account but she moves it into an emergency savings account. Her mom is a real estate agent and her dad is an accountant.
She always gets fun Colors in her hair. Right now she has a blue ombre but today we are just doing a maintenance haircut. She loves Liam and acts like a big sister or mother when she's around him. I know he's safe with her and that's why I let her babysit for me.
I can't always pay her what I should so I offer her any service she wants on the house. When it's paying her she picks small services like a haircut, waxing, or eyelashes. She always makes sure she pays for coloring her hair. She also helps out as an assistant and that helps me out a lot. I pay her as much as I can, and when she helps me with clients I give her the tips. I make enough to pay for everything and have food but that's it I hardly have enough for anything else.
"How have you been? Love?" I ask her as I drape her and start combing her hair and getting it wet so I can cut it.
"I'm good just doing school and work. I finally got the school to be on board with me doing half days for the rest of the year," she says with a smile.
"That's great hun! I'm so happy everything is working out for you. How are your parents?"
"They are good. They are still fighting me about living where I do but I'm 18. I need to do this now so I know I can do it on my own when I leave for school."
