-Soft sigh graced the air as you sat attentively in the counselor's office, yet you felt as if your time was being wasted in here, especially when it was only the first hour of the school day. True, you didn't feel like being in the gym and working up a sweat before it hit ten, but you didn't want to be in here either. And definitely not for the reasons you were here...
The clack of Mrs. Malkin's keyboard as she searched your grades between her dual computer screens made your head tick, and slowly the frustration began to creep onto your face. Though, a lot slower than it showed through your body language— a bouncing knee that was going 100 miles per hour, crossed arms to block your irritation from coursing throughout the room, and a clenched jaw that could shatter your teeth if one wasn't careful. You did not like Mrs. Malkin.
"I see you have other college choices, better than the one you applied for." She muttered underneath her breath.
"I like the one I got a full ride from." A terse reply from you.
A gap a silence that seemed to be a lot louder than the conversation filled the room, and the ravenette woman cut her eyes to you in a brusque manner, despite her giving her unsolicited opinion first. She brushed over your stature quite faintly before she turned to you completely; however, she was not turning to you in solace. The woman slightly bit her top lip as she slowly took off her readers, giving the notion she was going to be uncut with you.
She stared you back in your unwavering eyes, "miss l/n... I know you and I never happened to see eye-to-eye," she spoke, acknowledging the off-putting years the two of you shared, though hearing her say it made you realize that it was never one-sided. "But knowing you have better options than the one you... chose, is you only being blindsided from the scholarship money, that you can easily lose by the way, rather than the opportunities it lacks." She added curtly.
Your eyes widened right before you threw your head back and sighed once more. "With all due respect, the college I chose makes up for what it lacks with its accreditation system, community, and an emergency medical program that's only offered at this school." Replying to the woman who bit back her smart words she wanted to say, yet keeping it professional since you was still a student, and sadly her boss's daughter. "No matter what you say to belittle my choosing, I did do my research on every place I applied... Unbiasedly, believe it or not, because I knew you and I would be here today..." Mrs. Malkin's hands were tied together and her face seemed sweet, but behind her facade was a woman who absolutely hated you. A reason never came to light, but it was always just you.
"There's no way you researched them all, you've gotten over hundreds of offers. And saying that you knew today's outcome comes off as a little arrogant... you're a bright girl with a very ugly attitude." Your head was still tilted back, staring at her dimly lit lights and speckled ceiling above, before rolling your eyes. Things you've heard before, whether it was straightforward or subliminal.
