Sage POV

I fell to the floor holding my stomach gasping for air. The crowd cheering louder as I coughed up my own blood. I was considering staying right here and accepting defeat until I realized I actually needed this money tonight. Forgetting the pain my body was going through I got back up struggling.

Dodging left and right, protecting my head, doing everything I can to not get knocked back down as I studied his movements. The longer I dodged and was quick on my feet, the more tired and impatient he got. When the opportunity appeared I quickly took it sending a quick jab cross combo. He stumbled a little then I hit him with an undercut overhand knocking him clean out.

Some cheered, some boo'd, my only focus was collecting this money so I can provide for my little sister. My mother was dead and my father was a junkie so we really didn't have parents anymore. To make money I fight every night Tuesday-Saturday, Sundays Mondays I bartend at a night club. Today was different because I needed the money since my uncles pressuring me for rent.

I can't wait till I get out that nigga house I have enough saved up to get my own apartment but I'll need furniture and a stable job so that's why I'm still at his house. Going backstage I took off the wrap and got dressed. In the middle of me getting dressed my best friend came in giving me the envelope. "Sage you did great out there but you could've done better. I wanna see you in the gym tomorrow 1:00 sharp." He told me and I shook my head.

"Can't, I start school tomorrow."

"Then after, your next fight is going to be against hanes so you gotta be prepared." He told me and I cursed under my breath. "When?" I questioned. "1 month and a week." I ran my hand through my hair. I'm a good fighter but compared to Hanes I'm a damn ant. "I refuse." I told him and he shook his head. "Sage this is 25,000 thousand we are talking about, all types of coaches are going to be there, it's going to be a huge event you can't refuse." He explained to me and I shook my head.

"No I refuse, I have a choice to accept and decline so I'm declining." I told him and he bit his lip looking nervous. "I already told them yes." He said quietly and i stared at him. "You do know those types of fights are basically life and death right? There's only one way to win and lose and that's by death or having the towel thrown in. Money that big comes with big costs and you just put my life at cost!" I yelled at him.

To say I was angry was an understatement. I grabbed my duffel and the envelope then walked out the back door. I was tired, my body hurts, I wanted to lie down and get some rest, but instead ima have to be up all night because my nerves are all over the place. I grabbed my phone and called my sister but not before looking at the time.

"Hello?"

"Sage! When are you coming home? I'm hungryyyy." I smiled hearing her cheery voice.

"In a little bit, what would you like to eat? Anything you want no limits." I asked her.

"It doesn't matter I want whatever you want." She told me and I said okay. We said our goodbyes before I hung up. As I walked I listened to my music like I did every night. Just like how I was saving up to move I was saving up for a car.

But for now I'll stick to taking the bus and walking everywhere.
