Louis was stressed. And not just a little stressed; he was stressed stressed. And he hated it. He hated feeling restless all the time and not being able to sit down and just breathe for a while, even though that was the thing he wanted to do most. And the fact that Harry wasn't home, didn't make it any better.
Harry had been in the US for the past two weeks, doing countless interviews and photo shoots while Louis was stuck in their London home, doing promo for his own album. He hated being alone, but his source of comfort was the fact that Harry would be home in two days.
At around eleven p.m. Louis' phone rang. He had just finished showering when he heard his ringtone. He checked his phone to see Harry's name flashing across the screen. Louis smiled and felt like he could breathe a little easier, like a weight had been lifted off his chest when he picked up the phone and heard Harry's voice.
"Hi, my love. I know you're about to go to bed and I thought I'd check in with you. How are you doing?" Harry's voice sounded and Louis smiled, even though he knew Harry couldn't see him.
"Hi, Haz. I'm alright. I just showered. What are you doing? Aren't you supposed to be in an interview?" Louis was tired as hell, but talking to Harry always made everything better.
"That sounds nice. Yeah, we finished a little early, though, so I decided to call you before you went to bed." Louis could hear the smile in Harry's voice.
"Thank you, Hazza. When will you be back on Saturday?"
"I'll land around three in the afternoon and I'll be home by the time you come back from the interview you have."
"Okay. I love you, Harry."
"I love you too, Lou. Now go to sleep and I'll see you on Saturday." Louis sighed and hung up, quickly dressing in sweatpants and one of Harry's shirts before crawling into bed. His stress had been a little better since Harry had called, but he knew that the feeling would be back by morning. Turning to his side, Louis fell asleep, one hand on Harry's pillow.
Friday went by much the same as Thursday and by Saturday morning Louis was just a ball of nerves. He'd been feeling more stressed than ever and days packed full with interviews, recording, photo shoots and -in his opinion- unnecessary bullshit (even though deep down he knew it wasn't even close to unnecessary). He had also been smoking a lot more. Louis knew Harry wouldn't be happy about that, but he couldn't really help it.
When Louis' alarm went off on Sunday, he let out a string of colorful curses, before turning it off and sitting up in bed. He felt like he hadn't slept a wink and his pulsing headache didn't help one bit. He couldn't wait to get home later today and have dinner with Harry.
After he had been sitting on the bed for way longer than he should have, Louis finally gathered the energy to get out of bed and get dressed. Not bothering to put any thought into what he was wearing, Louis put on a hoodie (only later noticing it was one of Harry's but being too lazy to change it) and a pair of jeans, before grabbing his phone, his wallet and a pack of cigarettes.
Once he was at the studio, the flurry of activity didn't stop until around three in the afternoon, which was when he was able to take the tiniest of breaks. He knew Harry's plane was supposed to be touching down now, but before he had time to even grab his phone out of his pocket, someone was calling for him. So, with a sigh, Louis put out his cigarette and headed back inside.
Finally, as seven rolled around, Louis left the studio. His day had been hell. Due to his packed schedule, he hadn't had much time to think about how stressed he had been, but now it was crashing back over him even worse than before. If Louis was completely honest, he was close to crying, but he couldn't. Also, Harry would be at home by now and he would make everything better.
When Louis parked his car in the driveway, he saw that the light was on in the kitchen and smiled. Unlocking the front door and taking off his shoes, Louis' smile widened when the aroma of freshly cooked dinner hit him.
"Lou?" Harry called from the kitchen and a second later, a gorgeous face peeked around the corner. Harry grinned when he saw Louis and stepped out of the kitchen fully. Louis walked towards Harry and wrapped his arms around the taller man.
"Hi," Louis whispered and for the first time since Harry had left, his body relaxed completely. Harry pulled back the tiniest bit, his hand resting on Louis' cheek. Then, the taller leaned in and pressed his lips to Louis'. Louis immediately responded, his eyes closing before he kissed Harry back.
They stood there for what felt like hours, but in reality was only minutes. Eventually, Harry stepped back, pressing a small kiss to Louis' lips, before pulling him into the dining room. Harry had really outdone himself this time. The dinner table was set nicely, there were almost a dozen candles all over the room and an amazing looking and smelling pasta dish was on the plates. Also, Harry had put on some quiet music.
Louis looked around the dining room and grinned. If he was honest, the music was somehow stressing him a little, but stress was no stranger to him at the moment, so he ignored it. He wasn't going to ruin the mood by telling Harry that the music was somehow upsetting. He didn't even know why.
"Harry, this- this is awesome. Thank you so much," Louis said and received a dimpled smile in return.
"It was my pleasure, really," Harry assured him, "Let's eat now before it gets cold.

Eating dinner with Harry had been amazing. Louis had enjoyed listening to Harry talk about America. He loved Harry's voice and it always soothed him, so he wasn't about to complain.
When hey were sitting on the couch, Harry spoke up, "You've been quiet, love. What's been going on?"
"Nothing, really. I've just been a little stressed," Louis said, downplaying what he had felt the past two weeks.
"Mmm... you saying you've been a little stressed, usually means you've been sleeping less and smoking more," Harry replied and Louis sighed, sometimes hating how well Harry knew him. "Now come with me, you idiot. I know what'll make you feel better," Harry ordered and pulled Louis with him up the stairs and into their bedroom.
"Change into some comfortable clothes and then come back downstairs." Louis did as he was told, while Harry continued into their bathroom, grabbing something before hurrying back downstairs. Louis took his time to change into a pair of sweatpants and one of Harry's sweaters before walking back downstairs into the living room.
Harry was sitting on the couch, the TV on, a movie was ready to play and a bunch of nail polish was set up on the coffee table. At that sight, Louis practically melted and wasted no time to sit next to Harry on the couch.
Without a word, Harry pressed play and the movie started. A second later, Louis grabbed one of the small bottles of nail polish and gently took Harry's hand before gently starting to paint Harry's nails. He didn't know why, but it calmed him down a great deal. Maybe it was because he knew Harry was there and he had something to focus on, other than his racing thoughts.
When Louis was finished with one hand, which he had painted yellow, he gently placed it on Harry's knee before grabbing the younger's other hand and also a different colored nail polish. This time it was a bright red.
A few minutes later, Louis was done and looked at Harry's painted fingernails. He smiled before raising his gaze to Harry's face, looking into his gorgeous green eyes.
"Feel better?" Harry asked, the movie only background noise to keep Louis in the present and his thoughts from running.
"Much. Thank you." Louis pressed a kiss to Harry cheek before snuggling up to him. Carefully, mindful of his freshly painted nails, Harry wrapped an arm around Louis and pressed a kiss to his temple.
He could easily stay in moments like these forever.
