Squidward sighed to himself as he was walking home from work. He never really went into the main parts of the city, but he was already so peeved from his annoying boss, Mr Krabs, that he thought a walk down the streets of Bikini Bottom would clear his mind.
He was looking at the ground his entire walk, when he felt something bump against him. He stopped in his tracks and held his head.
"Ouch, sorry," He muttered. He hated people and talking to then but he figured it was nice to apologize to... whoever he bumped into. He descided to look, and he saw a muscular tall figure standing over him. He knew this guy... it was Larry the Lobster. Everyone liked larry. He was tall, strong, handsome, and laidback. He was the type of guy to do anything for his friends. He lived by bro code and was always looking out for his friends. The ladies loved him, and Squidward could see why.
"Oh, hey Squidward. How are you? Whacha doin?" He spoke out. He had a towel around his shoulders as if he just came back from a workout. Squidward admired the passion larry had for the things he loved.
"I'm- I'm good!" Squiward stumbled nervously. Normally if people made small talk he would shut them down right away, but Larry was different. He suddenly forgot how angry his job made him when he looked into his eyes, right before averting them.
"I wa sjust walking home from work. Nothibg exciting. Just another boring day." He smiled awkwardly.
"Heh, I get ya. Everydays the same, but thats why I like to challenge myself to do one new thing everyday." Larry smiled at him. He radiated confidence and security, something Squidward lacked.
"Y...yeah." Squidward mumbled. He fought internally with himself on what he should do: part of him wanted nothing more than to ask him out or SOMETHING. He felt terrible for the way he acted towards larry before. He was willing to go with him to something he enjoyed, and Squidward squandered his kindness with his own jerkish behavor.
"Hey, uh, Larry? I just wanted to talk to you about before, you know, when I asked you to the opening with me?" Squidward looked at his four feet.
"Oh, that? Yea, I was pretty pissed about it, but I've moved on. Not everyone loves what I do, you know?"
Larry looked at him. He began to hop onto his motorcycle that he had bought recently.
Nervous that Larry would drive away, he quickly blurted.
"Larry, do you want to gonon a fate with me?"
Larry oaused and looked over.
"Woah, bro. A date? I mean..." He looked a little hesitant at first, but he looked at Squidward and saw something. He saw the remorse from his previous failure at building a close bond. He saw the desperation for someone he could trust. He saw a person who wanted to be loved and acknowledged.
"Alright, sure. Why not? I'm free. Where you thinkin'?"
Squidward looked baffled that he agreed. He hadn't actually expected him to agree. He didn't think he'd get this far. He looked at Larry, then tugged at his shirt collar. What a hunk, he thought. I can't mess it up this time. Come on Squiddy, where would Larry want to go? Think about him, not you!
"Um... How about a beach date at Goo Lagoon?" Squidward proposed. His legs hadnt moved an inch from their spot. Larry just smiling at him made his heart race.
"Aw, hell yeah! Good pick, little man. What time?"
Squidward looked at his watch that only appeared for plot convience.
"How about 7:00 tonight?" He asked.
"It's a date. Wear some nice trunks, we'll be swimming a lot." Larry winked at him. He then fastened his helmet and revved his motorcycle. In a flash, he was gone. Squidward was stuck in his spot, his heart racing that he actually managed to get a date with Larry the Lobster, the guy everyone loved. How could someone so popular and cool want to be with someone so hated like me? Squidward thought. Let's just hope I don't blow it.
