With Prince Lorcan's successful handling of the kingdom's economy and diplomacy, whispers of his prowess spread throughout the realm. However, one person wasn't entirely convinced of the prince's newfound sense of responsibility: the male lead, Eris, who had once been engaged to the prince.

Eris, a young nobleman known for his intelligence and charm, had been taken aback by Prince Lorcan's sudden disinterest in their engagement. It left him feeling confused and heartbroken, as he had once admired the prince's dedication to their union.

Despite the sadness he carried, Eris's sense of duty to the kingdom remained strong. He couldn't ignore the positive impact Prince Lorcan's reforms had on the realm. Eris decided it was time to confront the prince and understand what had changed between them.

One evening, as Prince Lorcan was enjoying a lavish dinner in one of the palace's grand dining halls, Eris entered the room. His regal bearing and calm demeanor commanded attention as he approached the prince's table.

"Your Highness," Eris greeted him with a polite bow. "Might I have a word with you?"

Vandal, now fully engrossed in his princely role, raised his eyes and gave a mischievous grin. "Eris! What brings you to my table this fine evening? Come, join me for dinner! The wine is superb, and the company even better."

Eris took a seat across from the prince, his expression serious. "Thank you, Your Highness, but I have come to speak with you about our engagement."

Vandal's grin didn't falter as he took a sip of wine. "Ah, yes, the engagement. Well, I've been rather busy with the affairs of the kingdom, you know how it is. But go on, what seems to be the trouble?"

Eris studied the prince for a moment before speaking. "Your Highness, I've observed your remarkable accomplishments for the kingdom. Your leadership has been commendable. However, I can't help but wonder why you chose to disregard our engagement. It is important not just for us, but for the stability of the realm."

Vandal set down his glass and leaned back in his chair. "Oh, Eris, you know how it is with these things. Life's full of surprises, and I prefer to keep things interesting. Besides, who needs a scripted romance when there are so many adventures to be had?"

Eris's brow furrowed, his emotions conflicting with his sense of duty. "Your Highness, our engagement was not just a romance. It was a union that represented the hopes of many for the future of the kingdom. Have you considered the impact your decision may have on our people?"

Vandal raised an eyebrow, his tone light and teasing. "Ah, always the serious one, Eris. Don't worry so much! The people will be fine. They'll find new dreams to pursue, I'm sure."

Eris sighed, his frustration evident. "Your Highness, this is not just about the people. It's about us. Have you truly moved on so easily? Was our connection nothing to you?"

Vandal met Eris's gaze with a glimmer of playfulness. "Who said I've moved on? I'm still here, aren't I? As for us, maybe we were always meant to be more of a story with unexpected twists."

Eris's eyes softened, his emotions palpable. "I... I just wish things could be as they were. The prince I once knew cared deeply for our future together."

Vandal reached for his glass and took another sip of wine. "Well, perhaps the prince you once knew needed a change of pace. But who knows? Maybe one day we'll find ourselves back on the same path."

Eris nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I hope so, Your Highness. I truly do."

As the conversation came to a close, Vandal's playful demeanor masked the hint of uncertainty in his heart. Though he had grown accustomed to his new life, he couldn't help but wonder what the future held for him and Eris.
