Killua didn't sleep in that Sunday. He'd woken up hours in advance, not bothering with breakfast, and prepared for Gon's arrival.

Lysander insisted on staying around to keep an eye on Gon despite Killua's irritated protests. They could really be infuriating to Killua sometimes.

"Why is it so important for you to tutor this guy?"

"'Cause," Killua hesitated with a shrug. His mouth was open, but even he was confused by his lack of answer. "I just have to."

"I mean, you don't have to do anything. You don't need extra credit, and money isn't even tight right now. The guy doesn't even like you!"

"Well, gee, I'd sure hope not."

"Don't joke about serious matters."

"Jesus, you're so uptight, Lysander." Killua shook his head in disapproval. He sat on his knees folding a blanket. "It's not as if Gon can tolerate me past me being his tutor."

"Good," Lysander scoffed, grabbing their water bottle and taking a seat on the couch. "As soon as this tutoring gig is over, I want you to stay as far away from him as possible."

"You're so mean." Killua shook his head with a laugh.

"I'm being realistic. If he hangs out with Adonis, he can't be anything but trouble."

"I'm not a child, Lysander," Killua stood up with a sigh. "I can choose who I spend my time around. I'm of sound mind. I can make good choices."

"You truly think Gon is a good choice?"

"I'm his tutor! What does it matter if he's a 'good choice?' What does the even mean?"

"Whatever, Killua." They scoffed, retreating to their bedroom. "When he uproots your life, I won't say I told you so."

Killua twisted his lips and frowned. Their words made him ponder. It wasn't exactly outlandish to think that Adonis' best friend and protégé would be just like his role model.

Regardless, Gon had proved to already be a somewhat decent person. Killua would be lying if he said he believed that Gon valued his presence, but at least he showed up to their specified meeting times.

Or not, Killua thought about an hour later when Gon was nowhere to be seen. He'd called him about four times and left a few messages, but it was all to no avail. Gon was a no-show.

What a way to spend a Sunday: sitting in the living room with heaps of textbooks and notes strewn about for the sole purpose of tutoring someone who has no value for his sacrifice. It would almost be saddening if it weren't so infuriating. Killua taking time out of his day and his schedule. It was honestly not something he'd even considered—for anyone, really—so Gon not taking advantage of his luck just made Killua want to quit altogether. Lysander was right, after all; he really didn't need the extra credit. At the end of the day, he'd still be valedictorian, and Gon would still fail. It wouldn't be his fault.

Killua couldn't help but murmur, "What did I expect?" In complete disappointment.

"Y'know, I'd hate to have to be the one to say I told you so," Lysander waltzed pridefully into the common spaces. "But if no one else is going to, I guess it'll have to be me. I told you so, Killua."

"It's whatever. Maybe it was a family emergency."

"Yeah, totally," they sneered. "As if he has any family left he cares about. If I was related to him, I'd just kill myself."

"Stop saying things like that, it's rude. Just because Adonis is terrible to me doesn't mean I'm terrible to Adonis. Be the bigger person."
