includes: heartbreak angsty stuff based on the song Sky Fall by Adele

warning: violence, death

a/n wasn't entirely sure what to do for this since i didn't have much direction, but while listening to the song this is kind of what popped into my head! sorry if this is too sad

the night was draped in dark shadows, cascading an ominous and almost foreboding atmosphere onto our already nail biting situation. the sound of gunfire was the symphony of our warfare, along with the smell of gunpowder and smoke, the smell so strong it made our noses crinkle and eyes water. it was a war zone, active and strong. there were bodies piled up on the streets, and cars and building bricks trashed next to them. the only light was either the one emitted from your scope, or the fires lit from explosions. it was warm, orange and hazy, all around. one more push, and the night could end.

you were with him, ghost, your lieutenant and remaining comrade for the fight. it was rocky, you guys don't exactly choose to be this close, not anymore atleast. but it was up to you two for the remaining hours of the fight, having lost too many men and extras too far away to get here in time. it had to be you two. neither of you would back down from this without a win, even if it cost you the dignity you promised to hold after your...break.

you were side by side, shoulder nearly touching as you held positions to work your way closer to the enemies; they were holed up at the end of the wrecked city street with random guns appearing to cut you off. but you held strong, finding an opening to move in. you took it. but not in time. you got separated, forced farther by incoming forces, they knew you had even less of an advantage when not together.

"Sky fall is where we start, a thousand miles and poles apart.."

you couldn't held but pant, your heart rate was exhilarated and you were exhausted, but it seemed that the stress of somethings going to go wrong made your body ache even more. fuck, of course this would happen. you pressed against a wall, having found some shelter in a building on the left of the street. you could see through the broken walls and crumbled bricks that were what was left of the structure, and you squinted to see ghosts figure in your original spot. he was hunched behind a barricade, gun in hand. you couldn't tell if he was looking at you too, too much of a haze separated you. how do we end this.

"Where worlds collide and days are dark, you may have my number, you can take my name.."

you had to shake your head free, too many thoughts running in my brain. the flash of moments before this, your head against his chest, his warmth. you couldn't think about that right now, it was life or death, and those are moments that are lost in the past.

your head whipped around, surveying your options when sudden uproar erupted. there were more shots, and a trample of footsteps. there had to be five or more, all coming here. neither of you could take them on your own. you needed to be together for this. but like all things, it was unfortunately poetically symbolic.

you whipped around to ghost again, watching as he got antsy at the incoming attack- when a sudden bullet burrowed his way into his shoulder.

you heard his shout of pain, hand clamping over the wound. the world felt like it suddenly moved in slow motions, only the sound of the beating in your chest.

his hair.
his breath.
the sound of his laughter.

this was it. a switch flipped in your brain, and you made a decision right then a there.

"But you'll never have my heart.."

and that was that. you charged, gun raised as you fired off bullets. you got down four, ghost quickly catching on as he stood up to join in- but it was too late.

you were hit.

it was a bullet to your chest, hitting dangerously close to your heart that you couldn't help but look down. blood squirted from your chest, you hand fumbling on your clothes as your palm turned red. more moments popped into your head, realizing you might die- maybe this was the seven seconds thing. you couldn't help but think back to him. was he my seven seconds? the best moments of my life? why was this to ending we got?

you looked back up, barely recognizing the man as your vision was hazy with more flashing memories, before you were met with a final bullet to the head.

"Let the sky fall...when it crumbles..."

all ghost could do was watch, your body crumbling as he instinctively shot the man in front of you. he stood still as your body hit the ground, the world suddenly quiet. no, you weren't dead. you couldn't be.

but, you were.

he slowly walked to your body, boots crunching on the dirty street with his eyes wide as your body lay limp on the concrete. gone. you were gone.

he knelt down, swiping a strand on hair off your face. it didn't feel real, but here you were in front of him. he's experienced a lot of death before, people he's known for years. but it was different with you. you were his lover, past lover. hell, you had broken up because of your job. it made it too complicated- things fizzled. mainly due to ghost, he just couldn't do a relationship. it was too dangerous in your field. yet, your love long gone didn't protect you.

it was for nothing.

his fingers grazed your cheeks, his jaw clenching as blood started to trickle down your cheek. his hand moved down to yours, letting his fingers intertwine for one last time. he had always thought that maybe you'd rekindle, even if it took years. even if it seemed that you two hated each other. he always thought that maybe something would happen in the future. but now that was all gone.

he grabbed your dog tag, gently taking it off your neck and stood up. he took a final look to your body. this was goodbye. he had a strong sense to grab your body, drag it with him and back to base and never let go. he couldn't leave you here like this, and he didn't want pieces of you to be sent back home in a box like most men do. he would never let that happen. but he still had work to.

in a final act of defiance he turned around. they were still here, and they were responsible for this. for you. he would finish it, for you.

"We will stand tall, face it all together..."

idk if this is good
