Casey's POV
I knew Gracie performed "Symptom of Being Human" at an open mic night but I didn't think much about this until the day Rob comes running into my home office saying, "Casey, you need to see what our daughter is up to."
I run into the living room and there's Gracie with her guitar singing "Blackbird."
"Oh my God," I gasp.
"Hudson showed me a video of her singing 'Falling Slowly' and I know Maria told me she saw Gracie singing once day plus there was the open mic night at Elvin's but I never thought she was this talented. Case, I think we have a kid that might go into music."
"Well, we all knew that we'd have at least one kid who would want to go into music," I joke.
"Well, I guess there's one more kid of mine who isn't going to medical school."
"I think the chances of a Pattinson in med school died with Ashton."
"Good point, Case."
I then see him pulling his phone out of his pocket and he starts recording. A few minutes later, Gracie looks up and says, "Okay, Dad, what are you doing?"
"What?" I'm just capturing the moment I realized I got a daughter who is going to be just like her dad."
"I'm not thinking of doing film," she teases.
He stops recording and says, "Gracie, I think I need to let you in on something."
"What's that?"
"I wasn't planning on doing movies."
"You weren't?"
"Well, you know how I wanted to go to university when I was younger and become a speechwriter, right?"
"Yeah?"
I then see him walk over to the bench where they are and he picks up his guitar which he left there from last night and he starts strumming the beginning chords of Shinedown's "A Symptom of Being Human."
"Gracie, I think you should know that I wanted to get into music. I used to play at bars in London when I was younger and I did record a couple of songs."
"Wow."
"How about playing a little something with me?"
"Okay."
They both end up doing a duet version of "A Symptom of Being Human" which I have to record.
"Like father like daughter," I joke after they finish.
Rob's POV
Last week, I'm sitting on the porch checking some emails when Hudson Ogden walks over to me. "Hey, can I talk to you," he asks.
"Sure, what's up?"
"I need you to see something," he tells me as he pulls his iPad out of his backpack.
The "something" was a video he made of Gracie singing "Falling Slowly" from Once.
"Oh my God!"
"I know, she's great."
A couple days go by when Gracie approaches me. "Hey, Dad, can I go to Philly this weekend."
My teenage daughter wants to go to Philly? Yeah, I'm asking a few dozen questions because let's face it, I know what the city is like and she's a teenager for crying out loud! Also, this is my youngest daughter we're talking about and if the time I almost ripped Stephen Malone's face off for raping Katie and wanted to kick Byron's ass wasn't proof of how I can go from zero to papa bear pretty damn quick, I dare someone to go after Gracie.
