Chapter 5: Road to Recovery

The doctors quickly prepped Amy for her life saving surgery, while the family tried to wait as patiently as they possibly could. 

"I hope this surgery goes well" Lou said biting her nails. "It will. It's a life saving surgery, nothing can go wrong... right?" Georgie asked. "yes it will be fine" Ty said starting to stress out and snap. "Let's not get to arguing! Now is NOT the time for this" Jack said standing up. "Hey, so uh do you want to see Amy quickly before we take her into surgery?" The doctor suddenly appeared out of no where and everyone spun around. There was Amy, laying helplessly on the hospital bed all prepped for surgery. "Oh, uhm sure" Ty said calming down a little bit. "Why would we have to say hi... or bye if the surgery is gonna go just fine?" Tim asked getting erratic. 

"Its just a precaution! These surgeries always go well there's no risk involved." The doctor stated getting into position to push the gurney away. "Tim, just back up they are professionals, they know what they are doing" Ty said putting a hand on Tim's chest. Tim pushed Ty's hand away. "No this is my daughter we-" Ty interrupted Tim. "And that's my WIFE". Tim sat down. "We are going to take her into surgery before it IS too late" The doctor said pushing Amy's gurney towards the OR. 

For what seemed like decades, Everyone sat in silence and nervousness waiting to hear any news about Amy. Any at all. 

"Hello?" A voice behind The family said. Everyone spun around to see Ahmed standing there with his 2 body guards. "What are you doing here??" Tim stood up as well as the rest of the family. "I heard what happened to Amy, i am going to pay for everything that she needs to have done, its on me no repayment" He said stepping forward. his body guards following closely behind him. "No we wont ask you to do that. especially with everything that's happened" Ty paused for a second "Everything that's happened between you guys" He finished stepping forward and gesturing towards the door. Ahmed didn't even hesitate he just walked right back out the door, as quick as he came in. 

Everyone sat back down. "That was so random, and how did he find out what happened?" Tim looked around to everyone. "I don't know, its a small town he could have easily found out by someone else who told him" Jack said leaning back in his chair and grabbing a magazine off the side table. Tim sighed. not too long after they all sat back down the doctor came back out. Everyone stood up... again. 

"Well she successfully made it through the surgery, now we are just putting her in the ICU recovery room, you are welcome to go back and see her, but i suggest only 2 at a time" The doctor said smiling. "Okay thank you so much!" Ty reached out to shake the doctors hand. Everyone sighed a big sigh of relief. "I'm going to go back and see her" Ty said starting to walk towards the back. "Wait Ty can i come with you this time??" Georgie said running to catch up to Ty. "Yes of course you can" He said. "So in about a half an hour we are going to take the intubation tube out and try to wake her up" The doctor said scanning his badge for the doors to open to the rest of the hospital. 

"Is she ready for that?" Ty asked. "We hope so, Because about now is when she should be waking up on her own, but since we have her in a medically induced coma she wont wake up until we wake her up" He said gesturing to her room. Georgie and Ty walked into the room, there was Amy, she looked a lot better, but still helpless. Georgie turned her head to the side and let out a sad sigh. "Do you think she's going to remember when she what happened when she wakes up?" Georgie asked putting her hand on Amy's hand. "No.. No she probably wont remember anything." Ty said holding Amy's other hand. 

-25 minutes later-

The doctor walked into the room and Georgie and Ty both stood up. "Okay, so please go let your family know what's going on, we will not start til you return, but when you return please only be you Ty, we don't want to overwhelm her because she's going to be very confused when she first wakes up, a doctor will be waiting to open the door for you when you get back" The doctor said starting to unplug a few of the cords to Amy. "Uh yeah okay" Ty said walking out of the hospital room with Georgie closely behind. 

Georgie and Ty walked down the hallway to the big doors that they came through in the first place. Jack stood up first, as Ty had a worried look on his face because he wasn't sure how this was going to go. "What happened?" Jack asked walking towards Ty. "Uhm, well they are unplugging her now" Ty said running his hands through his hair. Tim stood up. "I want to be there when they unplug her" He said walking past Jack. "No Tim, the doctor requested it just be me for the wake up, but after she's less confused you guys can come and see her but i recommend you guys just go home and clean up" Ty said looking to Tim and then to the rest of the family. "He requested. blah blah. That's a bunch of BS" Tim said pushing past Ty. "TIM" Jack demanded. "Lets just go home, get washed up, and focus on how we are going to rebuild their house" Jack said walking towards the door. Tim sighed and shook his head and walked towards the front doors. 

Ty headed back to the big doors once again, Trying to prepare himself for how good this could go, or how bad this could go. The doctor pushed the door open so Ty could get through and then walked towards Amy's room. "Okay so now that you're back I'm going to remove her intubation tube and see if she can even breathe on her own" The doctor said slowly removing the oxygen and then sliding the tube out of her throat. Everyone went still for a minute and didn't move, or even breathe, the line went fast for a second and then it evened out. Ty sighed with relief and closed his eyes. "Okay! So its looking good. Now Ty im going to need you to come over here and hold her hands so she doesn't have a panic attack when she wakes up" The doctor said gesturing towards Amy's hands. 

Ty Sighed and prepared himself and latched onto Amy's hands. The doctor looked at Ty as if he was silently asking if Ty was ready yet. Ty nodded his head and the doctor injected something into Amy's IV. They waited silently for a couple moments and then Amy sat up quickly, panicking. "TY?" She yelled "Its okay I'm right here" He said squeezing her hands a little harder. "What happened why am i here?" She asked panickily looking around and trying to get out of the bed. "Hey hey hey, no sit back down we don't think your ready for walking yet" The doctor said quickly helping Amy back down onto the bed. "What happened??" She said panicking and looking at Ty. "There was an accident" He said looking down at the ground. "What kind of accident???" She said calming down a little bit but still panicking. 

Amy looked to Ty when he didn't respond, The doctor also looking up at Ty. "TY!! What kind of accident???" She said starting to cry a little bit and then noticing her legs. she pulled the bandages off "TY WHAT HAPPENED" She said screaming and crying. "Our house burnt down and a burning piece of wood landed on you" He said not looking up from the ground. "What do you mean?? What caused it?? A FIRE??" She said panicking and once again trying to get out of the bed. "Electrical, Jack got a lawyer and we are going to a file a lawsuit on the company" Ty said holding onto Amy's hands tight. The doctor pushing Amy back down on the bed again. 

Amy laid back down in the bed trying to process what she had just been told. "What do you mean the house burnt down?" She sat back up, tears still coming down her cheeks. Ty didn't say anything because he didn't know how to respond. "The house wasn't insured, so we wasted all that money for nothing?" Amy asked wiping her cheeks off. "No, we didn't waste our money, the family is back at the house now trying to figure things out, They want to have it rebuilt before you get home" Ty said still holding Amy's hand. Amy laid back down trying to calm herself down. "I want to go home" Amy said getting back up, this time successfully pushing through the doctor and standing up. "See I'm fine, now I'm going home i don't care what anyone says you cannot keep be here against my will" She said walking towards the door, Ty grabbed her. "Actually Mrs. Borden, Legally we can, but we think you've improved enough that you can go home, but you have to come back for your necessary surgeries and treatments." The doctor said stepping in front of Amy. 

The doctor gestured towards the door "if you can do 6 laps around this floor i will discharge you TODAY, otherwise you have to wait till tomorrow morning" The doctor said shooting a little grin to Amy. "What?" Amy said. Then she frowned a little and walked out the door to start her rounds. Ty looked to the doctor and shook his head smiling a little. Amy successfully did all 6 laps around the floor, easily? No, but she did them. "Okay looks like your getting discharged.... tomorrow" The doctor said. "What?! I did the laps like you asked me to" She said choking back tears. "I'm joking. Mrs. Borden, Here's your discharge papers" He held out a stack of papers to Amy. Amy sighed in relief. 

"I'm going to call Jack and let him know we are coming home today" Ty said reaching for his phone in his back pocket.
