The morning was fresh, the world seemed barely awake when Gianna pulled herself from her bed. It was Sunday morning, and as per usual she was headed to the church with her mother and her brother, her father was already there, for he was the preacher performing the sermon. Little rays of light hit the hardwood floor and reflected off her vanity mirror. She had sat down to do her hair and makeup, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. The window was open, you could hear the early morning come to life, the birds chirping and the wind blowing against the wind chimes. "Gigi are you awake honey?" called her mother from downstairs. "yes mum!" she called back, loud enough to hear. When she had finished her makeup and hair she went to dress herself in a pink knee length dress. Her mother had picked it out for her and it looked like something from the 50s. It had a plaid pattern on it along with some puffy sleeves. She pulled it on, adjusting it in the mirror, before stepping into her white flats and heading downstairs.
The stairs creaked as she made her way down, the house they lived in wasn't quite old, it was up to date in all the right ways, it was just a little aged, however big. She arrived in the kitchen, her mother was asking if she wanted eggs or pancakes. "eggs please" she said as she plopped herself down at the table, smoothing out her dress. "mummmmm" called a little whiny voice from the stairs, it was Elliot, Gianna's younger brother. He was 8 years old at the time, although acting young for his age. "yes darling?" her mother replied promptly. "I want pancakes!" he whined, coming down the stairs to give her puppy eyes. "I'll make you some I don't mind. now are you dressed and ready?" Gianna's mother asked him. He nodded and made his way to the chair beside Gianna and sitting down.
After breakfast, they all made their way out the door and into the car, and onto the road. "Now kids I hear there's a new family attending the church today" her mother said bluntly as she drove along. Elliot was too content looking out the window to answer verbally so he just nodded. Before Gianna could answer, her mother continued on, "now be nice alright? No pointing no judging?" "of course not mum." Gianna replied.
Once they arrived at the church, they headed inside and sat in their usual spot next to the Henderson's in the third row. More and more people filed in, all familiar faces, it was a very small town. Then came in a face, well several faces Gianna did not know, it must have been the family her mother had been talking about. There was a mother, with brown hair, blue-grey eyes and a plain yellow dress on, there was a father too, with red hair and a bushy beard, a rather big, tall man. And then there was a girl, about 17 maybe 18, Gianna's age. She had black hair, the same eyes as her mother and the same height as her father. She was pretty, but tall with a look like she works hard. Gianna couldn't help but stare, so noticeably that her mother slapped her arm and whispered, "what did I say Gianna?" she took her gaze away from the newcomers and tried to focus on something else. But Gianna noticed from the corner of her eye, the family sliding into the fifth row on the other side of the aisle. And she also couldn't help but notice the intense gaze she was receiving from the new girl with the black hair.
