Kip's POV:
"That's crazy." My eyes roll as Enid rambles on about her strange bathroom experience.
"Kip, it was weird. Like weird, weird." She pleads the small part of me that is genuinely interested in what she's saying.
"Yeah, totally weird that we're alone on campus with people barely out of their teens who now have the chance to do whatever they want on school grounds." I drawl.
"They were locked."
"Yeah, I heard you, Enid Jones. Spooky bathrooms. I get it." I liven up a little, wiggling my fingers at her. She can probably barely see me.
"Fine, be an ass, but when some creepy vague figure in the distance has you wanting your mommy, don't come crying to me." She folds her arms.
"But why not? You're mommy material." I give a pathetic laugh at my own dumb line.
"I'm asking for new friends this Christmas." Enid huffs. Again, my eyes roll.
"If we even make it that far, who knows? The bathrooms might eat us alive." My voice wavers, similar to a corny ghost cartoon.
"Ass." She flips me off, but there's no sign of her being mad. Enid lies down in the middle of the auditorium. We're the only ones left in here, which is doing wonders for my social battery.
The door opens, shedding light on the room. The dark silhouette in the doorway makes my heart leap. I want to look away, but I can't.
"Thought I'd find you in here still. Hey, Kipper, do you mind if I steal Enid for a bit? I've got some ideas to circulate?" Enid's already up at the sound of Ewan's voice.
"Whatever, man, just use protection." I draw a groan from Enid, but the expected silence from Ewan. He's had a crush on her forever now, and yet, little Miss Oblivious is living up to her name. I swear she wouldn't see affection coming if she were a damsel tied up on the tracks with it streaming towards her like a train.
With Winter dance coming up after break, I'm nearly certain he'll be using this time to ask her.
"Yep, I'll just... be here... alone."
"You'll be fine Kip." I can feel her sarcasm from here. After all, I practically gave it to her. "Just don't let the bathrooms eat you." Then the door closes, and I'm left in pitch darkness.
"Bye. Nice chatting with you." I scoff to myself. "Start the day bringing everyone together, end it all alone."
"As if." A voice causes me to jolt, cursing at the sudden appearance.
"Fucking fuck." I swear.
"Though you would have been if I didn't need to come back and clean the bathrooms up." Hendriks' voice runs right through me. Footsteps approach, but in the darkness, there's a security of not being able to see each other.
"Not again with the bathroom." I groan.
"It's a little strange." His voice is right behind me. I don't move.
"So, I've been told." I shake my head.
"That's all sorted. Now I get to have your brilliant company in a pretty horrific setting." Clothes rub, and I know he's now sitting on the floor with me.
"I can't tell which part of that was sarcasm, but I know it's there," I respond. "And since my company is brilliant, it's the setting you're being sarcastic about."
"So close." He taunts. I'm glad for the darkness that covers my face.
"So, what now? We stick our tongues down each other's throats and roll around in the dark." I snort out. Being awkward is better than awkward silence.
"Not what I had in mind, but ever the class clown, Kip Cooper thinks it's funny all the same." Half a laugh leaves his lips, but I guess he's trying not to find it funny.
"What's that supposed to mean?" biting is the only way this conversation continues.
"It means you're funny and you know it."
"I haven't heard someone say a sense of humour was a bad thing since I met my ex's ex." I'd scoff, but the silence is jarring.
