They say nothing's fair in love and war.
Chongyun would argue that nothing's fair in this fight at all.
Especially if it's a fight against two infamous Harbingers.
With the entire nation of Liyue at their mercy...
Chongyun wasn't having the best time right now.
After being thrown off balance and rolling onto his side, it took him a few seconds to reorient himself. The young man's cough came out more as a pained groan, he clutched the side of his stomach almost seething at the radiating pain.
The sounds of blades clashing didn't help with the ringing in his ears, even Xiangling shouting orders at Guoba made his head spin even more. The Golden House was bright with its glittering Mora piled up along the parameter of this battleground. The sharp smell of thousands of coins could be mistaken for blood.
Oh, actually it was the blood seeping from Chongyun's nose that he was smelling.
The greatsword in his hand was impaled into the mint's floor as he struggled to bring himself up to his feet. Heaving quite heavily and shutting one sore eye, Chongyun scanned around the chaos to locate his team members.
Behind him, Xiangling continued summoning her trusty sidekick and providing moral support to the party as the fight intensified. On one side of him, Xingqiu was calculating his moves aloud as he searched for ways to break down the Harbingers' defences. On the other hand, Lumine was keeping Childe busy, dodging his attacks with such grace that it put dancers to shame.
But in front of him, Chongyun was faced with a threat much bigger than a young man wielding wet arrows. Even the space around him crackled with raw electricity, it made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. A figure emerged from the chaos.
With hands in his pockets, Scaramouche walked over to the injured exorcist quite casually. It was true that the air around the Golden House was electric, shocking any living thing that breathed. Even the large hat adorning his head fit like a crown upon a king. A god's aura. Nature indeed bent to his will.
"Exorcist," Scaramouche's cheerful greeting was laced with severe dislike. "We meet again. I see those three Agents failed to keep you locked away."
Chongyun could do nothing but spit out the blood seeping into his mouth.
"What a shame. Though, I've thought of this moment," A wicked laugh from Scaramouche. "I'm impressed that some exorcist like you bested me in the few things I excel at... angering my enemies. Now it seems like I have competition."
"You're just a crazed lunatic, Harbinger...! Do not compare me to you."
"It's not a comparison," Scaramouche quipped back. "It's merely an observation. If we were to compare ourselves, you are not the cruel one."
Chongyun's jaw worked, sore as he shot back, "How dare you bring your Fatui business to my nation."
"Your nation," Scaramouche started with a shallow grin, amusement coating his features. "I've been wanting to tear down that ego of yours ever since I saw you at your friend's restaurant." He eyed the frosted scar along the exorcist's neck. "But my secretary beat me to it anyway."
"I'll purge you, Harbinger." With a frustrated huff, Chongyun lifted the heavy claymore to point daringly at Scaramouche. "You weren't there, she missed for a reason."
"And if I were, I would have given her the termination order."
He saw Chongyun's attack coming from a mile away. The exorcist moved sloppily, that bulky weapon of his slashed through the air in an attempt to gut Scaramouche's abdomen. He let Chongyun swing around some more, exhausting him to the point where his movements slowed.
