It was quiet on the Volturi private jet.
They had left Volterra in the middle of the night, so Leander would be arriving in Forks Washington at a reasonable time.
The day before was spent eating dinner, his vampire family drinking blood from fancy metal goblets older than him, while he had his chicken parmesan. By his feet, his 11-month-old puppy Orion lay after having finished his food.
Ever since he was gifted to him, Leander and Orion were inseparable. The only times, this was not the case were when Leander had to go to school. In the beginning, Orion did not like that and would whine, but after a while the Shiloh shepherd/Golden retriever mix would find comfort in Athenodora most of the time. She welcomed the pup as they both missed the human boy.
Sometimes Orion would approach Caius, who took longer to warm up to the dog (Even if it was his idea to get him) but when there were no eyes on him, he would pet the dog softly knowing how happy it had made Leander since Orion was gifted.
After dinner, the human son and his vampire parents would pack the last bag of necessities and check everything was ready once more. Afterward, the rest of the time was spent with all of the family sitting in the garden illuminated by lamps and talking about whatever came to mind.
Athenodora had spent the last four months purchasing his new house and making sure it would be completely furnished to her son's taste. She had received a phone call from the member of the Volturi guard that was overseeing the moving, that everything was ready and everything they shipped over had been received, and what he was allowed to unpack, was unpacked.
It gave the mother some relief knowing her son would only have his personal belongings, some clothes, and a few boxes that he insisted he unpack himself, to do when he arrived. It saddened her that she couldn't accompany him all the way to the house, inspecting it herself, but it was Cullen territory and they couldn't risk exposing Leander as a human knowing of the existence of vampires.
Leander's safety was always the number one priority.
They did however join him on the jet, as it would land in Seattle. They left one of their most trusted guards Lorenzo, to drive him the rest of the way, seeing him safely settled in the house. The reason they chose him, was his gift. He could camouflage himself, making himself appear human. It wouldn't last for too long, just long enough to drive him and check if the area was safe.
Athenodora was looking out the plane window. In her head, she was making sure she had done everything to make her son's move as easy as possible. His new school had been called and a schedule was agreed upon, the hospital as well in case anything would happen (though Athenodora wished that wouldn't be the case). Even the location of the closest grocery store and local diner had been researched and noted so he had that information when he needed it.
Caius was sitting right beside his mate, his hand on her thigh, possibly to calm to himself as much as it was to calm her. His thoughts were weighing the pros and cons yet again, but he knew that this was needed. The pros outweighed the cons, the biggest being that it was something his son wished for.
'At least he has his dog with him'
Caius thought back to all the training he and his son had done. Even though Orion was not even a full year old yet, it was clear he would never let any harm come to his owner.
He looked at the still-growing puppy lying at the foot end of the bed where his son peacefully slept.
Brown eyes met blood red, silently acknowledging their need to protect Leander.
