"We've got the papers. You're finally ours." Nicholas said as he flaunted the document.
"Dy, why won't you talk to us?"
I shot Caroline a glare as soon as the word 'Dy' came out of her mouth. She had no right to call me that. After what she said about my mother.
I took my hair between my index finger and thumb and gently began twirling it.
"You haven't spoken in about two weeks. What's wrong? Are you okay?"
I got up and headed towards my school bag and picked out a story book, and handed it to Nicholas.
He smiled as he opened the book.
"Once upon a time, there was a girl name Cinderella...."
Dear Diary,
That day, Nicholas read the story of Cinderella, which I listened to in awe about the fictional character. The story, made me wonder when my prince charming was coming to rescue me. I hoped and prayed it would be soon. But little did I know, I would have to be my own prince charming, and rescue myself.
A couple days after, Nicholas brought me a book.
"I bet you're wondering what's in this brown bag."
I was curious. My eyes lit up and I was tempted to say yes, but I simply nodded my head.
He pulled out a brown book with a latch at the side.
I was confused. That was the first time I saw a book like this.
"It's called a diary, Dy. I can call you Dy right? This is a book where you write what you feel and you hide it away so no one can read it okay. You can write any thing you want in this book okay?"
I nodded again and walked over to grab the book from him.
"Woah.. Hold up there."
I flinched. Alwin used to say that when he brought me something because he always wanted something in return.
The look on my face must have been terror. Nicholas knelt and asked me what was wrong.
I shook my head no to represent nothing.
He kissed my forehead and handed me the bag. I smiled from ear to ear.
"Your smile is beautiful. Keep smiling."
After he left, I giggled. I had a diary. Diary, you were going to be my best friend. You were going to be the one I confided in. You would be the one who would help me. You would be the one who would save me.
