WHAT did he mean two? It was just myself standing here as my father couldn't bear to remarry after my mother. I looked around but no one seemed to be paying any attention. The cadet sitting behind the table seemed o avert his eyes, now opting to stay silent. I turned my body to face Riorson, I'm pretty sure he still remembers me. I would say in our situation it is hard not to recognise each other."First Sorrengail now you? The generals seem to just love their children this year." Even with hate in his eyes, he still seemed to smirk, waiting for me to have a response. "Why wouldn't they? We are the Generals children and have their name to carry on." I cock an eyebrow up as I place my weight onto one side, crossing my arms my attention now fully on him and not our surroundings. "But Sorrengail? you mean Violet? I think you are mistaken there I just saw her this morning getting ready for the Scribe Quadrent." He shakes his head, chuckling at himself about something. "Seems you didn't stick around long enough to find out. Check the book, me and her had a little...chat before she decided to actually cross." I tilt my head at him. He stares back and says nothing, so I look over the notebook and to my surprise I see her name just starting to blur from the rain. "Well I stand corrected." That's what those two must've been doing this morning. It makes a lot more sense now why Mira was throwing books out like a mad man and the stumbling over words. "Seems you and her are going to join Malek this year."
"By your hands? Not a chance and you couldn't do anything even if you wanted to."
"Daddy's girl are we?" I hum, neither agreeing or disagreeing. "I would say the same but... I can't can I?" The man identical to Riorson sucks in a sharp breath as the one looming over his other side seems to step foreword in warning. I throw one of my hands up, resting my elbow on my still tucked arm. "Relax I was only jabbing back at him. Cool your guard dog Riorson." He just continues to seethe. If I was insane I would've sworn I saw shadows dancing around him in an almost enraged sway. "What? not gonna say anything? Kill me? I mean, it would be fair." His stare feels almost overwhelming, like someone shovelling ice down your collar. Instead of biting back, his lip just seemed to curl upward just slightly, probably imagining me screaming the whole way down if I fall off. With his hand, he points over to the Parapet.
"I don't need to do anything when the Parapet can just do it for me. Or others." He nods over my shoulder, seeming to motion me to turn around. I do and see groups of people; most are glancing at me from the corner of their eyes to make themselves try not to be noticeable. Seems everyone heard my name when I told the guy, either that or they heard this guy have a fit. I turn back to him. "I hope you don't think I'm that easily won over by fear. But if you are, guess I'll just have to prove it right?" I turn on my heel and head towards the now soaked stone, I can already see the front part of the steps moulded by the hundreds of soles over the years.
I turn back and give Riorson a wave. "I'll see you and your little buddies-" I gingerly circle his little group with my finger "-On the other side."
The stone is slick underneath my grip and I'm now regretting not wearing my gloves. I push my body up onto the Parapet, placing one foot tightly in front of the other. If I can walk in a straight line normally this should be just fine. Just a smaller path built for someone the size of a cat. No biggie. I sucked in a breath, the wind howling as it whips hair in my eyes and around my face, the wet strands clumped together and I take a moment to wipe it all out of my face, slicking back my hair. "We haven't got all day to watch you die Melgren! Get to it!" I look over my shoulder to see a smile on Riorsons face, I bet he reviles in my misery IF he were to ever see it. I wave him off before turning back around. I've spent years training for this, so the only damage done is the cold seeping into my clothes as I'm continued to be drenched. The wind won't shake me off this platform but my shivering just might.
