Slow Jam by Usher featuring Monica blasted through the speakers as Harlow lay on the bed facing her pink and white roses wallpaper ceiling. Harlow took a deep breath in and released it just like her therapist taught her to keep her from tearing shit up and acting out of her own impulses. Harlow worked as an Art Teacher for the local community center in Atlanta for 6 years with hope that she will own her own studio one day until it all came crashing down today. The Community Center was bought by a company Harlow had no idea of and it seems it was more to the story than what she was told. She thought the Community Center was doing great nothing indicated that she would be out of a job before coming up with half of the money she needed for her studio. Harlow sat up and looked around her room searching for answers or a sign of what the hell she suppose to be doing then her doorbell rang. Harlow rolled her eyes and reluctantly got up to see who was at her door. She looked out the peephole and see it was her crazy ass best friend Kacie. Harlow opened the door and said "Not today Kacie shit not looking too good for me."
"I know and that's why I'm here. That shit fuck up Low how they do you like that." Kacie said as she welcomed herself inside.
"Kacie how do you know what happened? I haven't even told my mom yet." Harlow said
"You know them bitches down there at the center can't hold water. Ty told Mesh Mesh told Courtney then Courtney told me. It's not how I found out bestie it's what the fuck are you going to do now." Kacie said
The ladies made their way to Harlow kitchen taking out things to make a Mimosa and soft snack.
"You know I don't fuck with none of the people that you named right?" Harlow asked
"Girl, you don't have to tell me that's why I checked every last one of their asses. Because what y'all not going to do is talk shit about my best fucking friend not on my watch." Kacie said slicing an orange.
"Kacie please tell me you didn't." Harlow said knowing how crazy Kacie can be when it comes to defending her.
"If I do tell you that then you would know I'm lying. Enough of this shit what are you going to do Low?" Kacie demanded to know.
Harlow popped the Andre Champagne and poured it in two champagne glasses topping it off with Orange Juice and slices of strawberries and oranges.
"I honestly don't know right now. Working at the center is all I know plus you know I was trying to save up to do my own thing. Shit just crazy!" Harlow said
"Sis, I totally get it that's why I took the initiative to get you an interview at my job you can thank me later. Can we go sit on the balcony I want to be on my pretty girl shit." Kacie saying as she made her way out to Harlow balcony.
Harlow poured some pretzels on a platter with the orange slices Kacie sliced, cheese , crackers and Almonds. Harlow grabbed the platter walked out to the balcony sat it on her table and circled back to get the Mimosas.She gave Kacie her glass then took a sip of her own.
"You know damn well I don't want to work at your job because you know who works there." Harlow expressed
"Who Josh? Bitch y'all been broken up move on and let it go. You need money to pay your bills and that's not happening with a thought and penny." Kacie said
"I'm not checking for Josh fuck him I let that go the day I caught him fucking another bitch in the bed I bought. I'm just not ready to be in the same space as him." Harlow said
"Friend you know that's bullshit. You can lie to Mama Robertson and your brothers them but not me. I know you loved that man and you still hurt but don't let that hurt get in the way of you making your coins sis." Kacie said putting her hand on top of Harlow's.
"Kacie I'm telling you it's no hurt over here. I just don't want to see the man who is the very reason I have to go to therapy." Harlow said moving her hand.
"Harlow keep telling yourself that. Anyways the interview is at 11:30 today so what are you wearing?" Kacie persisted.
"Who said I was going to the interview?" Harlow yelled.
"Harlow you are going to the interview even if I have to come pick you up myself. I love you Low and I seen how far you have come and I refuse to let you go through Depression again. I almost lost my best friend." Kacie said
Her last words stung worst than a bee because it was true. Harlow tried to take her own life because of the break up with her ex Josh and the death of her dad who she was very close to happened on the same day. Harlow started drinking and smoking two things she normally wouldn't do heavy until she made it her coping mechanism. It was Kacie who pulled Harlow out of that dark time of her life and made her feel normal again.
"I never did say thank you Kacie." Harlow says
"Low yes you did."Kacie said
"No, I didn't and I'm sorry for that. I was so caught up in my own shit and felt the world owe me. I didn't know I was hurting you with hurting myself and it caused you to lose my niece or nephew." Harlow sincerely said.
Tears started falling down Kacie face as she remembered the day she miscarried her unborn baby and being told she won't ever be able to have children again.
"Listen Harlow don't you dare go blaming yourself for what happened with the miscarriage. You needed me and I was there sad that it happened but it was bound to happened anyway." Kacie said trying to convince herself more than Harlow.
"Don't say that Kacie if I didn't try to kill myself you would've been somebody mommy. I know you don't want me to blame myself but I do Kay. I will go to the interview I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you cry." Harlow said while hugging her best friend.
"I love you bitch." Kacie said
"I love you too bitch now let's eat this snack and drink all this Mimosa hopefully I sober up by the time to go to my interview." Harlow said
They both laughed and did exactly that...
