"Good job, girls. We're proud of you both."

The voice from behind was familiar, and I could place it in a second. I would know the sound of my Aunt Aggie anywhere at any time.

Zoe and I exchanged a look before glancing behind us to see the door open and two familiar figures in the threshold, the other one being Vic. Zoe's hardened expression then dropped, revealing the little girl underneath that was only afraid for her father. Not the girl that closed herself off, not caring for anyone, even herself; but the girl with a scarred heart.

She ran over to him, almost knocking him over in course of the embrace.

"Woah there, Zoe. I'm still not completely healed."

She quickly jumped off of him, apologizing a mile a minute, causing the older man to laugh. I then turned to look at my aunt, who was smiling at the two before she turned her attention over to me. Her eyes shone, expressing her pride in my actions, and my heart instantly felt warm.

"Wait, what do you mean 'healed'? You were actually healed?"

It was then my aunt's turn to laugh.

"I'm kinda responsible for that, Zoe. I'm-"

"I told you she was a witch, Vic! See, you never listen to me!"

I then looked at them both, finally asking the question that had been on my mind since I found Zoe in her house today.

"What the hell are you guys?"

The atmosphere turned from happy to tense in an instant. Vic and Zoe locked eyes, her worried expression meeting his calm one.

"I think she should hear it from you, kiddo."

She took a deep breath and just looked at me. It felt as though time just, stopped when our eyes locked. It felt like everything else didn't exist, never did, and never would again. But it wasn't a good feeling. I didn't feel like I was weightless. I felt like I was lost. I felt like nothing existed because the world as I knew it was about to crumble down, not because I was experiencing pure ecstasy.

The world stopped because I was scared to know what I would hear when it started again.

But that didn't mean that time could stop forever.

"Mickey, me and Vic, we're not normal..."

"Yeah, I got that."

"We're-"

She turned back to Vic.

"How in the hell am I supposed to explain everything to her?"

"I know my aunt's a witch, and I know that was a demon back there. I also know I'm psychic. But everything else is Greek to me," I interrupted before Vic could answer.

Zoe looked slightly more relieved at this disclosure.

"Ok, at least you know that part. Now I just have to explain about me and Vic."

She took another deep breath, going to lean on the door frame, like she knew this would take a lot out of her in the end. And that worried me even more.

"The first thing I should probably tell you is that Vic isn't my real father. Hell, he's not even my father by adoption, like I told you before. He's called a Vigilem, basically like the Watchers from Buffy. It's his job to watch and guide me and my Socius; do you know what that is?"

I nodded my head, remembering the conversation between my aunt and me that morning.

"Ok, that's good, too. He's supposed to protect me and my Socius, once that person is found, that is. The entire aim of these Socius pairs is to help close the always-opening portals to fucking Hell that assholes like Tenebris open. Oh Tenebris was-"
