The realization that this was Cams childhood best friend had suddenly struck him from, quite literally, behind. They hadn't seen one another in nearly fourteen years. Toilet and Cam were basically the Beevus and Butthead in the trailer park way back when. With Cam's Father often being gone at the bar or passed out drunk on the couch, he always had time to be running around.
Cam and Toiler could typically be found unsupervised. Throwing eggs at Geno's trailer 4 doors down, wreaking havoc in the rich neighborhood a couple blocks away, or just plain making a mess somewhere. Wherever they were and whatever they were doing, they were always together and always had fun. The neighborhood was a good place for the two to learn to flourish. Everything except one minor detail, Geno..
Geno wasn't the most liked by the boys. In Cam's eyes, the only good thing about her was that she introduced the two. Well.. sort of.
One fine afternoon, fresh off the school bus, Cam was walking home from the stop. Being as whimsical and manic as he usually is, he began to chase a butterfly. Unknowingly, Cam stumbled into Geno's lawn and fell face first into her flower bed. Destroying all the hard work she had spent hours the day before tending to. The commotion of breaking terracotta pots must have terrified her, as she came running out of the front door screaming.
"WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU!?!?"
She shouted, voice shrill and filled with rage, as she pointed a 22 gauge shotgun at Cam's little 6 year old self.
Little did Cam know, his superman was again, right behind him.
Toilet, being as brave as can be, screamed back with all his might.
"We are literally fucking 6 year olds you crazy old bitch!"
Tyler swiftly grabbed Cam's hand and instructed him to run away.
Thus, the beginning of a bond never to be broken. That summer, the boys grew to be very close. Often having slumber parties, staying up all night, and going out for adventures during the day time. With no parents to hold either of them back, the world was theirs to conquer! And they did just that. The two grew up and around each other. Forming themselves into respectable young men.
One fateful night, at a sleepover they didn't have permission for, They vowed never to end up like their parents, and to be their own people one day.
"I hate my stupid dad, I hope I never act like him when I'm all grown up." Tyler said solemnly.
"You won't, you're too good. I hate my dad too, we have to promise to never be like them Toiler, for the sake of ourselves." Cam replied, wistfully enthralled.
"Yeah! We are gonna be the best dads one day, and you have to let our kids be friends too!" Tyler said with a grin as he pressed his forehead to Cam's.
"Duh!!" The boys broke out in laughter as they shut the light off to finally sleep. The two fell asleep with a smile plastered on their faces as they dreamt of the future and what it might hold.
Unfortunately, after Cam's 14th birthday, Toiler moved to another town, too far for either of their parents to drive them to. Never to be seen again. That is until the both of them made an appearance at this specific bar. It must have been fate for them to meet like this.
"Oh how I've missed you, my dearest friend." Tyler drunkenly spouted to Cam. Stumbling over him in the process.
"I never found anyone quite as good as you, my best buddy" Cam replied, grabbing onto Tyler's shoulders and pulling him into an embrace. They were both covered in spilled liquor and grime as they clung onto one another.
"I've waited such a long time for this reunion, I love you so much Cam." Tyler said, his eyes welling with tears.
" I love you too, forever my best friend." Cam said, resting his head atop Tyler's as they began to slow dance to the music. Only for the silence to be broken moments later.
"I gotta get outta here man.." Tyler said, wiping his tears away.
" I gotta hotel next door for the night, come with me?"
Cam nodded, following Tyler as he went to go pay their tab.
