Disclaimer: This story will have triggering content and dark themes. I also want to say that this story is fiction and is in no way shape or form trying to give mental hospitals a bad reputation. People have both good and bad experiences but I am not trying to paint that mental hospitals are like the one in the story.

Verena was having a staring contest with the figure in her room. His eyes were missing yet he was staring right at her. Though she sees him every day, his eyeless stare still made her skin crawl. He looked different some days. He sometimes was covered in blood and got it all over the floor. Right now, he was just grey figure. She couldn't figure out which form bothered her more.

"Please leave." She begged, knowing he wouldn't answer.

As expected, he did nothing but continue to stare wordlessly. Who knows when he will decide to leave? He'll probably hover over me when she tries to sleep tonight like he usually does.

She began to scratch at her wrists again, making blood ooze out of the wounds. It grounded her. It calmed her nerves as the chaos ravaged her mind. She didn't even feel the burn from the scratches in her wrists as it was nothing compared to the pain she felt through the rest of her body.

Her torso flashed with pain at every single breath she took. She couldn't remember what incident had hurt her ribs the worst. She had been slammed to the floor multiple times by the hospital staff. Whenever she had a breakdown or a horrible hallucination, they would storm her room and throw her to the floor to restrain her. Perhaps it was fear that she would try to kill them. She had killed before.

Verena killed her brother's best friend. She stabbed him over a hundred times with a big kitchen knife. She remembered his agonized screams with every stab she gave him and how his blood splattered onto her skin and the walls. She watches as the life faded from his eyes and him take his last agonized breaths.

She remembered the horrified look on her brother's faces and how one officer had thrown up at the gruesome crime scene she had made. Her brother Riven went from horror to rage when he realized what she had done to his best friend he had known his entire life. Riven yelled in her face that he would kill her for what she did.

Everyone was confused of how an eleven-year-old girl was capable of such a violent act. Her brothers never expected something like this out of the normally quiet and reserved little girl. She never had any violent tendencies growing up. All she wanted was to follow her brothers around only to be ignored by them. She eventually gave up on trying to get them to pay attention to her so she eventually just stayed in her room and rarely came out.

Verena expected to be sent to juvie, which didn't bother her. Instead, her eldest brother admitted her to a psychiatric hospital. She was told she would be there for six months, but it had now been three years.

It had been three years of hell. Three years of being held down and injected with medication because she refused to take the pills they gave her. Feeding tubes stuffed in her nose because she would refuse to eat often. She had been hit multiple times by the nurses at the hospital.

She still had bruises on her face from an altercation she got into with one of the nurses. She refused to leave her room for a session with the psychiatrist, and the nurse tried to drag her out and hit her when she struggled. She hated going to the psychiatrist because he would get too close.

She didn't see the point in having psychiatric or therapy appointments when she was never going to get out of here. Being in juvie would make more sense.

She had come to terms with the fact that she would die within these walls and never breathe the fresh air again. She knew she was too insane and dangerous to be free. She was never meant to be free. She just wished death would hurry up. Death had to have been better than what she faced in this hell.

Verena knew her brothers hated her or just completely forgot she existed, considering none of them checked on her and the fact that she had been in here way longer than she was supposed to. They were horrified by her actions, and Riven would probably kill her if he saw her again after what she did. She almost wanted Riven to find and kill her so she could be free.

She had tried to commit suicide but was always stopped before she could succeed. Other patients had been able to do it, but she never seemed to get it right.

She just wanted it all to stop.
