I stared at the boy who had just come into the classroom. He had messy brown hair and was smiling slightly. Even though he was late.

"Felix, you're tardy. Again." Mrs Reeson sounded annoyed.

"Sorry Mrs. R- couldn't find my keys," he said, not sounding very sorry. He was wearing baggy white athletic shorts and a gray hoodie. The hoodie had the words 'Sunbeam Athletic Squad' scrawled across the front. Mrs. Reeson rolled her eyes.

"Get to your seat," she grunted, sounding annoyed. "Okay, everyone get out your laptops."

My eyes traced the boy as he started walking- RIGHT TOWARD OUR TABLE. My eyes widened. I quickly looked away and started getting out my laptop.

"Again, Felix?" Isla muttered as he sat down across from me. He put his hands up defensively.

"Hey, I couldn't find my keys!"

"Yeah right."

I sat back up now with my laptop in my hands and set it on my desk. He gave me a curious look.

"Who's this?" he asked Isla.

"Ava," Isla told him, grinning at me. I smiled back at her.

"So you're new?" Felix asked, folding his arms on his desk.

"Yeah, I just moved from New Jersey."

"Interesting," he murmured, studying me with a slight smirk on his face. I wasn't quite sure what to do about that, so I just looked away from him and at Mrs. Reeson. She was chewing her gum vigorously and typing on her computer. I wondered why she wasn't telling us what we were supposed to do. Felix followed my gaze and chuckled.

"Yeah, sometimes she just does that. Stops teaching for a couple minutes out of the blue."

"Oh," I responded, unsure of what to say. I glanced back up at him and- yep. He was still looking at me. It felt like his eyes were burning into me. What was going on?

"Okay everyone, time to actually do math," called Mrs Reeson. "Open your laptops..."

 BRIIIIINGG!  I winced

BRIIIIINGG!  I winced. What was wrong with the class bell here? Why was it so loud? I shoved everything into my backpack.

"Ava!" Isla said. I looked over at her. "Do you want me to add you to the class group chat?"

"Oh! Sure, my number is 613-475-8392," I said. She whipped out her phone and typed it in.

"Okay you're added! I also texted you my name so if you need help with anything you can text me! I know what it's like to switch schools, it sucks. Okay gotta go see you tomorrow!!" She's out the door before I can thank her. Dang that girl is quick. I pull out my phone and save her number, then start walking to my locker.

When I get there, I shove my math notebook into the depths of my locker and pull out my history textbook. I sigh as I look at my locker. It's so empty and sad. My locker back in New Jersey had been filled with pictures of me and my friends, school posters, and a couple photos of Tom Holland. (shhh don't tell!) But this one was sad and bare. What lovely symbolism, I thought as I grabbed my history notebook. Then I heard a familiar voice.

"Hey- new girl!" Felix called as he wove through the people in the hallway. I rolled my eyes as he finally reached me. He put his arm on the locker beside mine, leaning against it.

"What?" I asked, glancing at him and then back at my locker.

"What class do you have next?" He asked.

"History, why?" I said, still staring into my locker.

"Great, me too- I'll walk you there."

"Why? I don't need help. I can find it myself."

"Okay, which direction is it in?" he smirked. I looked away from my locker and around at the hallways. To be honest, I had no idea. But I pointed confidently to the right, pretending I knew and hoping I was right. He laughed.

"Nope. Come on, I'm trying to help you. Please?"

"I'm good, thanks though," I replied, shutting my locker and finally looking at him. Oh crap. He was standing a lot closer to me than I thought he was. I backed away quickly. He sighed and checked his watch.

"Class starts in... 20 seconds," He said, pretending to yawn and tapping his fingers on the locker. 20 SECONDS?!  Oh my god... I could NOT be late on my first day.

"Fine," I mumbled. He grinned.

"Right this way, New Girl," he said, walking to the left. I rolled my eyes and followed, praying he actually knew where he was going.
