BaleIT ALL happened so quickly. One minute, Letty is screaming in pain and the next, she faints in my arms.
"Letty!," I shake her. "Leticia!" but she's unresponsive, so I lift her in my arms and rush outside the gallery, people parting like the red sea until we reach my car.
"Grab my keys. It's in my pocket," I say to whoever is with me and they do, unlocking the car and another one opens the back door and I get in, perching Letty on my lap.
"Hurry up!" I yell and I see Azriel, Letty's mother and Astrid jump in. Azriel presses his foot hard on the gas pedal and the car propels forward at an insane speed but I don't care about that as I look down at Letty whose face is starting to become pale. I cradle her head in my neck muttering a number of "please, be okay" in her ear and rocking us back and forth.
Azriel angrily hoots on the cars in front of us, swerving left and right and shouting profanities. "GET OUT OF THE WAY!"
I know that I should tell him to slow down and not kill us all but I want Letty to get immediate medical care because fainting has never been a good sign. It's always an indication of an underlying issue and I'm scared of learning what it is. I place my index and middle finger at the juncture of her throat and let out a sigh of relief when I feel her heartbeat.
"Is she breathing?" Astrid whispers and I narrow my eyes at her.
"Of course, she's breathing!" I hiss out and she flinches, making me feel terrible but all that my mind is occupied with is Letty and ensuring that she'll be okay.
We finally arrive and Azriel hits the brake in front of the hospital and we quickly get out and my feet jog to the medical practitioners who take note of the urgency we're in and bring out a stretcher. I place her on the bed and they stroll her in.
"What's happening? What's wrong? What's her name? Age?" one of them, a lady, fires.
"Uh...her name is Leticia Adams. She's twenty-eight and she fainted like...ten minutes ago," I reply and we enter a small room, immediately checking her pulse.
"Still breathing," a guy shouts, and they lift the top part of the bed so that her upper body isn't laid straight and then put a ventilator over her head and place it on her nose to give her oxygen and that makes me panic.
"Is she not breathing?" I inquire, and one of the doctors pushes me out of the room.
"Let us do our jobs sir," he says, and shuts the door to my face but I move to the window to see whatever they are doing and one of them injects something in her arm.
A choked sob is heard to my right and I turn to see Astrid crying in her mother's arms. Azriel joins me to my side and squeezes my left shoulder.
"She's going to be okay," he tells me and I want to believe it. I really want to believe it but watching her fight for her life, makes my heart clench and I stumble but Azriel holds me up.
