Picture Above: Reagan's prom dress
The Enchanted Forest, months ago
The fireworks on this day used to make her happy, but now they only made her more upset and angry. They were only celebrating her because she made their lives easier. She would be there at every beck and call as the Savior and someday Queen.
The now sixteen year old Crown Princess was feeling miserable on her birthday. Birthdays used to excite her and make her feel loved, today she just felt used. She didn't want this anymore. She was unhappy.
She was depressed.
After much thought and consideration, she was running away to make a fresh start for herself. As Reagan snuck into the stables, the booms of the fireworks were going off in the distance. She tightened the strap of her satchel around her as she got Equinox out of his stable. She led him out the door, only to see her boyfriend standing with his arms crossed, shaking his head.
"And here I thought that we were past all of that," Aaron said.
Reagan froze, her mind starting to spiral as she remembered how this went last time, and how it did ended with her and the blond starting to court. He caught her, turned her in to mother which caused her to get a lecture but also a long overdue, yet seemingly fake, mother-daughter conversation about starting over, and Aaron apologizing to her, telling her he only did it because he loved her and didn't want her to get hurt, or possibly killed.
Reagan sighed, "Aaron, I have to go."
"Fine. Then I'm coming with you."
"What?"
"You heard me," the blond said as he went into the stables, finding the horse he had been riding whenever he and Reagan went out.
"But you have a life here. You have your father, and your brother, and The Merry Men—"
"And you have a life here as well. You have a family who loves you, a kingdom that needs you—"
"The kingdom only likes me because I'm The Savior and they're forced to like me because of who my mother is. As soon as she dies they won't want me on the throne. And my family, my mother included, only loves me because I can bring back their happy endings and save them. They don't value me."
The blond sighed as he brought his horse out, "I wish you didn't see it that way."
"It's the truth."
"Then why would I come with you?"
"The same reason."
"I'm shocked you think that low of our relationship. Reagan, I did not start seeking you out because you are The Savior nor because of your status. I truly care about you. You make me finally feel not so much alone in this world anymore. You have made me truly happy. Now I am going to return the favor."
"Because you feel obligated."
"No. Because that is who I am. You have been broken, and I am going to help you."
"I don't need help."
"Too bad, because you're going to get it."
Reagan turned to him, "Are you really ready for a life in hiding?"
"As long as it means I get to spend the rest of my life with you."
The ravenette slightly smiled before getting on her horse, making him slowly start walking as Aaron did the same. As they got farther away from the stables, Reagan looked back at the palace, knowing that she was throwing her life away.
