After a week of hauling bodies out, Oscar and Axel (mostly Axel) decided they were going to ask Rick to join his group. I followed behind them, holding Sammie to my chest while trying to keep up. "I'm serious guys! This isn't a good Idea. We promised to stay in our block." I notce Rick coming our way, looking seriously P.O'd.
"You should listen to her. Why are you here?" Axel looks at him pleadingly, "I can't be in there no more man, there's ghosts. If you're trying to prove a point, you proved it bro." T-dogs stepped in next with a scoff, "You should be burning the bodies." I look between them as they all went back and forth. After around two minutes, Rick led us over to the gate and locked us between the two. "Is this necessary?" Rick gave me a sharp look before walking off.
Once he got to his group, he started talking in what I think was supposed to be a whisper. "Look do we really want them sleeping here? With all our people?" T-dog looked at him, disgusted and added in, "Isn't that the same as leaving them for the walkers? She's got a baby, for Christ's sake." Carol followed with a head shake and a very timid, "She's the only one I'd feel comfortable with staying." I scoff from where I stand, deciding to be helpful and kill some walkers through the fence while I listen.
"Look, maybe if we knew them. But they're strangers." I glance at Daryl and notice him go to say something before being cut off. "You took us in. We were strangers too." I'm glad T-dog is more reasonable than the others. Maggie however had a different Idea. "You turned up with a shot boy. Didn't really gives us much of a choice."
Carol stepped forward again, "They're convicts, bottom line." Daryl doesn't seem to like that response and quickly comes to our defense. "I grew up with guys like them. Cherry's my sister, so I know her through and through. She's a sweetheart, and them? They may be degenerates, but they ain't psychos. I could've ended up here just as easily. Almost did with her."
T-dog smiled, thinking my brother was with him. He was. Just not fully. "So you with me?" A scoff from Daryl told him everything before the words even left his mouth. "Hell, no. Let the guys take their chances like we did. Cherry and Sammie are staying with us, end of story." I smile at his words, and take this as my moment to butt in. "Aww. Love you too, Darry. However, Carol, didn't ya just tell me last week you don't think I should've been arrested?"
The woman tries to reassure me that she didn't mean me. I try to hold my laugh in at her facial expression when Daryl told her I was just joking. "Sorry, I just didn't like the tension y'all were brewing." She just timidly nods, before they all get back to work. Thirty or so minutes went by when we hear Glenn cheering on Hershel. I smile at the exchange and cheer too. However, the mood was quickly ruined by the sight of walkers and screams of terror.
I snap my head over to the men, who are running toward us, as the alarms started blaring. "Can the generators be turned on manually?" Rick looked like he wanted to kill us as he asked, prompting Oscar to respond first, as I was consoling the baby. "I guess it's possible. I only worked there a few days." The gate then unlocked, so the guys and I could follow them. I stick close to Daryl as he fights his way through over to Beth and Hershel. Beth quickly unlocked the door as Daryl fought behind me on the stairs. I hand over Sammie with a nod and a quick thanks, before following after Daryl.
Pulling my knife out, I plunge it into the heads of walkers who got too close. We eventually make it to the generators and immediately set to work. Oscar told the others what to do while me and Daryl held the door closed. After about five minutes of tinkering, they got it shut off. Another two, and the walkers had wandered off. I go to breathe a sigh of relief, but stop at the sight of movement. "Rick, look out!"
With a scream, Andrew popped up with a baseball bat and tried to swing it at Rick. It turned into a full blown fight when said man dodged the blow. Daryl stepped in front of me, blocking any hits directed this way. A gunshot rang out, causing me to flinch. I peaked around my brother to see had happened, only to be met with an interesting sight. Oscar pointing a gun at Rick, and Andrew dead on the floor. I held my breathe as I waiting to see what would happen next. Oscar then flipped the gun around, holding it out to the other groups leader.
