A GRADUATION TO REMEMBER

WHEN BILLIE'S PHONE COULDN'T BE FOUND BY THE PACK, IT TOOK ALL OF TWO DAYS FOR JANE TO MAKE HER APPEARANCE IN TOWN.

And once again, she looked annoyed that she was even there, perched near the window of Billie's bright bedroom. "Where have you been?"

"Uhm, here?" Billie offered, gesturing to the room around the sassy vampire with confusion from her spot sprawled across her bed. "I lost my phone."

It was Jane's turn to look perplexed. "Can't you just purchase another?"

"It doesn't work like that," she sighed, trying to remain calm in front of the blonde who'd once again been sent to Forks due to Billie's lack of response. "But I should have one by the end of next week."

A beat of silence. "That won't do," Jane responded resolutely, putting her hands on her hips. "I will fetch you another tomorrow, since I am to stay until then, anyways."

"You really don't have to—" Billie's words were quickly shut down by the Volturi girl's sharp glare pointed in her direction, "—okay, fine. But why are you here until tomorrow?"

"It is your graduation, no?"

Billie's haze flickered to the short, white dress hanging from the back of her closet door. "...yeah?"

"Aro cannot step away from his duties, as I'm sure you could understand," she started, rather diplomatically. "He sent me to check on you, and to ensure that you will enjoy the gift he's sent you."

The Burbank girl's attention was zeroed in on that last little bit, because she surely hadn't told Aro when her graduation was happening. "Gift?" she parroted back, sitting upright on top of the bed. "What gift?"

"I cannot disclose that," she responded, a finger tapping against her arm as she crossed them over her chest, "but you will receive it tomorrow, where I shall see your reaction and report my findings back to Italy."

Billie never received gifts from many people, much less from a powerful vampire she barely knew who was stationed across the world. She was big on handmade gifts from the heart, rather than focusing on a price tag— but that didn't mean she didn't enjoy the jewelry her mother bought for her on very special occasions.

"What are you gonna do in the meantime?" she asked the vampire, knowing they had many hours in between now and her actual graduation.

Jane looked uneasy for a split second before it was masked by the pursing of her lip. "I will wander."

Somehow, Billie knew the word wander translated to I actually have nothing to do.

"Wanna hangout?"

Jane's head nearly tilted in evident confusion. "Hangout?"

Rather than try to explain the premise of a hangout sesh to someone that was a million times older than she was, she merely beckoned Jane forward. The blonde tentatively approached the bed, close enough that Billie tugged on her limp hand and pulled her to sit next to her.
