Author's Note: Nya's OOC ( Out Of Character )
Kai's POV
As we walked farther into the cave, it got darker and darker.
"I got this. Time to shine," I said as I lit my hand on fire. That's better. I could actually see now.
I quickly noticed that Lloyd was missing. Where'd he go? Did someone kidnap him again? Probably not. It doesn't make much sense for someone to randomly get kidnaped in a cave. But with Lloyd you never know.
"Is it still getting darker?" Nya asked. Her voiced echoed.
For some reason the fire began to go out.
"Ah, technical difficulties. I'll have us back in a sec," I said. I quickly relit my hand.
"There you g-" I realized that everyone was gone. "Hey, where'd everyone go?" I asked. I began to search for them. They couldn't have gotten to far.
After a minute of walking I saw Nya in the distance.
"Nya! Wait up! I'm coming," I said as I ran toward her.
Once I was close enough I realized she was mad.
"What's wrong, sis?" I asked.
"You let your fire go out. Now everyone's missing," she said angrily.
"Sorry about that. I don't know what happened. One second it was working the next-"
"Or you didn't try hard enough."
"Try hard enough? What are you saying?"
"That you're still as lazy and cocky as ever. You think that barely doing anything counts as contributing when it doesn't. You can't just stand there and watch while we work our butts off."
"What? I'm not just watching. I'm helping too. I was the one who carried Ryu and Wyldfire."
"Okay, so you did one thing. But that doesn't pay back for the millions of times you ruined everything." I stared at her confused.
"Ruined everything? What do you mean?"
"You do something stupid, and then our plan falls apart. You've always done that. You never think before you do. You just do. You haven't changed a bit, and it's a problem." I stared at her shocked.
"But I have! I haven't done anything stupid in forever! I'm not arrogant anymore!" I lost control of my powers and accidently set Nya's gi on fire.
"See?" she said as she put it out. I sighed. She was right.
She chuckled.
"Don't you realize? You're the reason we never succeed. It's your arrogance. Your anger. Your stupidity. Honestly, you're ruining this team."
"No, I-I'm not. I'm just- I'm trying my best. We all fail sometimes."
"Well, you've failed to many times. Maybe that's why our parents didn't fight back. Maybe they didn't want to deal with a failure like you." I pushed back tears.
"No, they- they didn't fight back to protect us. You know that."
"We both know that they could've won. That if they fought hard enough they could've overpowered Krux. But they didn't, and do you know why? Cause they didn't want to raise a failure like you."
I began to cry. For so many years I'd thought that they'd left. That they'd left because of me. I'd tried so hard to be the best, so that they'd come back.
Then I found out that it wasn't their choice. That they didn't want to leave.
But part of me still thought that they did. That they could've fought back and defeated Krux. But they didn't. Because they didn't want to deal with me.
"You know it's true. No one wants to deal with a failure like you. No one. Not our parents, not master Wu, not Skylor." I thought about all the times I'd tried to call Skylor. Before and after the merge. Before the merge she rarely answered but still answered occasionally. Each time she didn't answer I'd swallow the feeling that she didn't want to be with me. I'd always convinced myself that she was busy with her shop. But deep down inside I'd always known that she just didn't want to talk to me.
"Not even me," she finished.
"Wh-What? Wh-What d-do you mean n-not you?" it was taking everything for me not to cry.
"I mean I'm leaving. I've finally had enough. I'll start a better ninja team. Without you there to mess things up I know things'll be better."
"No! Don't leave! Please!" Tears were streaming down my face as I grabbed her leg in an attempt to stop her. I couldn't lose anyone else. I'd already lost so much.
"Goodbye, Kai." She pulled away.
I watched as she walked away. What made things more painful was that she was right.
I was arrogant, cocky, lazy, and stupid. I did still have anger problems. I was a failure.
All I ever did was ruin things for the team. It would be better if I wasn't apart of it at all.
Then I woke up.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I blinked. It took a minute for my eyes to adjust to the light.
"You all didn't see what I saw. Did you?" Arin asked. I didn't think so.
"No, I think I saw my own thing. File that under the absolute worst" Sora said. Absolute worst was right.
"What was in your vision?" she asked Wylfire. I hoped she wouldn't ask me about mine.
"The wasting....," Wyldfire gasped, "Nothing. Never mind. I don't wanna talk about it"
I looked toward Nya.
Did she really think I was a failure? Did she really think that our parents didn't fight back because of me?
Was she wrong?
I sighed as I looked away.
I didn't want her worrying about me. That meant that she'd ask questions. Which meant that I'd have to tell her what I saw. And I didn't want to do that.
"How did you know it wasn't real?" Lloyd asked.
"I saw Jay, the love of my life, but he didn't know who I was. I know the real Jay could never forget me. It couldn't be real," she said. I sighed. How had I not realized that was fake? Nya would never say those things! I really was stupid.
"We should keep moving. Who knows if that thing is coming back maybe with even uglier friends."
We began to walk out of the cave. I kept my gaze on the floor.
Why did they still want me to be apart of their team? All I did was mess things up.
"Light! Over there!" Arin yelled. We all ran toward the light. Hopefully there was something better out there. Something to keep my mind off that nightmare.
