i. seoul countryside

months had past since hyesoo and woojin were discharged from the hospital. their lives were completely changed when they left for the countryside along with mr oh and geonwoo.

at first, hyesoo didn't want to leave, but when she realized that all that was left for her was pain and dust, she had no choice but to go.

her days there were mostly spent in isolation.

the pain, physically and mentally, exhausted her to the point where she couldn't get out of her bed. mr oh, geonwoo and woojin, especially, tried their best to be there for her. but it was like hyesoo had become a shell of her own.

it got so bad that they had to force her to get out, to eat and to drink. mr oh took her on walks, geonwoo did his best to lift up her mood and woojin — hyesoo would never forget what woojin was doing for her.

he cooked her favorite meals, picked up flowers for her, made sure she was comfortable no matter what, didn't leave her side no matter what.

he was always there for her.

woojin didn't mind doing all of this for hyesoo. he even wished he could do more, but he was no mythical creature that knew everything, he had to learn and understand what would be best for her.

waking up from his nap, woojin went with half-opened eyes towards the bathroom. but when he opened the door and took a step inside, his body stiffened, the scene in front of him breaking his heart.

he didn't waste another second and rushed towards the bathtub filled with steaming water. "hyesoo," woojin's voice was no louder than a whisper.

she was almost completely inside the water.

hyesoo looked tired, drained even, and gave no reaction to the boy who was softly shaking her shoulders to get her attention.

she didn't want to be like that. she didn't want to be so weak, so weary all the time or worry the only people she had left.

she wanted to be better, happier. but she didn't know how to.

not after the doctors had told her that she wouldn't be able to dance again.

not after she found out that her childhood friend, hyeonju, had left.
