Today was the day. Saturday. She rolled out of bed and stared at herself in the mirror for a moment before peeling off her pajamas and climbing in the shower. The water was hot, but bearable.
After she finished washing the soap away, she got out and cleaned off the steam filled mirror before wrapping in a towel and digging through her dresser.
What the hell was she supposed to wear? He was a business man.. so maybe a nice dress? Was he going to wear a suit?
She kept digging but the only dress she had that wasn't dirty was a puffy pink dress that her mom made her wear on her sweet sixteen.
"Looks like we're going shopping." She said to her cat, which was still sleeping on her bed. He's a Siamese who's about 3 years old. She named him Henry.
After that she threw on a random pair of leggings and a hoodie, and patted Henry on the head before walking to the door, slipping on her shoes and driving off to the mall.
As soon as she pulled into the parking space her phone went off.
8:27 AM
Message:'You like seafood?'
It was Flynn.
'Yeah, I do.' Before he could reply she sent another message,'Should I wear something fancy?'
'You'll look stunning no matter what you wear.'
She smiled and turned off the phone, putting it in her hoodie pocket along with her keys and getting out of the car.
She drove a small blue car, which had leather seats, but besides that, normal. A few dents in the bumper and scratches on the door but she was too broke to get a new one.
Atleast it still worked.
She walked around inside the mall for about an hour before finding a store called Love birds outfit co.
It was small, but the dresses and suits inside were beautiful, and within her price range. She went straight back to the customer service desk.
The woman standing there was older, 50 or 60s maybe. But she pulled off the grey hair well, she more pearls and a black smooth dress, with a name tag that read,'Lisa'.
Something about her face felt farmiliar, but since she couldn't figure it out and shrugged off the feeling.
"Hello maam, was there something I could help you with?" Lisa asked, her red lipstick popping with every word she spoke.
"Yes, I have a date tonight. He's taking me to a seafood place, I need something sorta fancy, but not too pricey."
Whether that detail about the restaurant was important or not she didn't care, she had no idea what she was doing when it came to dresses.
Lisa chuckled and nodded at a couple of dresses on display to her left. "Those may be of interest to you, let me know if you have any questions."
Freya nodded and walked over to where she was told. There was three of them here, all just under 500 dollars.
The first was a sparkly midnight blue dress, it has no straps, just a zipper on the back and a slit up the thigh.
No thank you, next.
The second was a classic red color, with sewed roses on the chest and back. It was long sleeve as well, and looked.. itchy.
Pass.
Purple. This one, was purple. It was the type of fabric that could stretch or condense. And it was soft at the same time.
It was more of a darker purple than lavender but there were a few accented areas along it with lighter shades, it has about inch thick straps and a V down the chest.
It went down past her knees as well, almost to her ankles. Thank god. It was perfect. She waved over Lisa and smiled.
"I'll take that one, in a size small."
The woman nodded and went to the back, a few minutes later she came out with the same dress in a smaller size, in a square box.
Freya payed 375 dollars on this one. It was one of the less expensive types, but also perfect for her.
Once she got home it was 3 o clock already. She quickly made up another microwave ramen bowl and ate while doing her hair. She decided to curl it slightly and use hairspray.
Then she slipped on the dress and checked the clock, 4:17 PM. Man, this was a race against time.
She quickly added eyeliner, mascara, and lipstick to the mix, not wanting to spend to much time on it.
That woman from earlier.. have I met her before? Maybe when I was little. Or maybe I'm just going crazy.
Nevermind. Freya shook off the feeling once again and checked the time after multiple failed attempts at winged eyeliner.
5:48 PM
Flynn had just messaged her that he's on his way. He was sweet, she replied with a thumbs up and continued to put on winged eyeliner til she gave up and just went with waterline.
She stared at the mirror for a while, but was snapped out of her trance when the doorbell to her apartment rang. She quickly slipped on 1 inch wedged white heels, and went to open the door.
There on the other side, stood Flynn, in a black suit, with a box of chocolate.
Freya smiled and then accepted his gift.
"Thank you, Flynn. I'm a sucker for sweets." They both chuckled as Freya placed the box on the counter and grabbed her phone.
"And I'm a sucker for coffee. We both have our weaknesses." She smiled at him and he smiled back, for a moment, the world stopped, until Freya closed her door and broke the silence.
Flynn studied her dress with a grin, as he took her arm and led her to his black sedan. "You look beautiful."
Freya smiled and her face turned a shade of pink,"Thank you.. I just bought this dress earlier today."
Flynn opened the passenger door for her and she got in the car, he then ran around to the other side and got in as well.
"Oh? Which store? I know a few. My mother works at a dress and suit shop as well." He replied as he started the car and cranked the heat.
"It was called.. Love Birds Outfit company.. or something along those lines. There was this adorable little old woman who helped me."
She looked over at Flynn and his face was a bit surprised. "What was her name?" He asked hesitantly, with a slight smile.
Freya thought for a moment and remembered reading the tag on her dress. "Lisa."
Flynn chuckled and started to drive out of the parking lot. "well, you've already met my mother then."
Her jaw dropped slightly and her face grew hot. This is their first date and she already managed to screw it up by meeting his mother?!
It's not like it was intentional.
Wait.. was that why she was so farmiliar?!Atleast now she knows where he gets his looks from. Good genes run in the family, I suppose.
