Maggie took no notice of Freddie making the tea for her, he placed the tray down on the coffee table with the tiniest of clunk's, as she bulled his boots Maggie began to hum the tune of the quick march for The British Grenadiers.

Freddie felt a smile creep across the face as he heard quietly humming away whilst bulling his boots. " Are you sure you're okay to do them?" Freddie asked.

Maggie looked from bulling his boots and nodded her head quickly with a quiet smile and got back to it.

" You know who knew polishing a soldier's boots for him? Was this satisfying?" She smiled while talking and polishing.

Freddie watched her, " You do that. I'll do the other. How's that? I can not possibly expect you to polish them both. The regimental Sergeant major will have kittens! "

Maggie looked his way with a smile, " Does he come here much?" Maggie asked.

" Nor that much he has a lot to do back at the barracks!" Freddie commented.

" Are you guys 1st or 2nd Battalion?" Maggie asked.

Freddie smiled. " We his majesty's 1st Battalion Grenadier guardsman!"

Maggie made a face much like a grimace. " Ish! That's some pressure! "

Freddie smiled. " It is yes!"

" How long have you been a guardsman?" Maggie asked.

" I've been past out for about four years!" Freddie answered.

"  Not long then! I know what it's like having a military background. My father wasn't a royal guardsman. He was an engineer.

" It must be hard, though, having to keep shifting all the time from Palace to Palace!" Maggie asked.

" I will not lie to you Maggie, it does get a little tedious at times, but I suppose it's part of being in the British army and being a Grenadier guard ….. Once a Grenadier, always a Grenadier

My father is the colonel of the grenadiers! " Freddie admits.

" And let me guess, you're a fourth generation Grenadier guard." Maggie smiled.

" Yes, actually, how did you know that?" Freddie asked.

" Hmm! More logical sense rather than common"! Maggie laughed.

Maggie forgot about the boots, " Damn!" Maggie cursed beneath her breath.

" Come give it here! I'll finish it off. You sit and watch me at it, eh ….. I've got to get these spick and span for the Ceremony of the Keys this evening"! Freddie instructed.

Maggie couldn't refuse could she?

" thankyou for your help though Maggie"! Freddie smiled.

" You're more than welcome Guardsman Guildford"! She playfully winked.

" So tell me what " the whask" said"? Freddie asked as he finished off bulling his boots.

Maggie felt a giggle rise within her, with a chuckle she replied " I basically told him that he could stick to the job where the sun doesn't shine! Is the long and the short of it"!

Freddie looked up from bulling his boots, his eyes widened " so you've quit the job then"!

" Short answer yes"! Maggie replied.

" I'll apply for another job within the tower"! Maggie announced.

" I see! And is that because you're hoping to see more of me ma'am"? Freddie teased her. " I did not encourage you to lose your job Maggie"! Freddie admonished her, with eyebrows raised but on the other hand I could see how tired you looked going to work every morning …. Even if I was in my bearskin.
