Always on duty Maggie even if I'm not in uniform"! Freddie smiled, offering his arms to her they climbed back up the hill toward The White Tower.
" Right, so here's an interesting fact, " every queen that has ever been crowded has stopped in the Tower! Maggie murmured to him.
" Indeed! And why is that because it houses the royal crown jewels? " Freddie asked.
" Hmmm, possibly!" Maggie replied.
" Or perhaps it is because of security!" Freddie offered.
" That's another possibility, yes"! Maggie replied with a smile.
" I can't imagine ever feeling one of them, though! On their big day and not their wedding day, their coronation day had to get dressed up and then taken to Abbey, or wherever it was that they were officially crowned! Maggie murmured.
" Sounds rather familiar"! Freddie commented.
" I know what you're thinking. Did the King stay here the night before his coronation?" Maggie smiled
" Probably not. That tradition died out years , ago!" Maggie replied.
Every king and queen has always stayed at the Tower since 1066 when William The Conqueror was alive! " Maggie pointed out.
When they entered the White Tower, she wasn't scared Freddie was there.
" Ladies first!" Freddie smiled as she slipped through the door, getting stuck as the gap was small.
Maggie got through the door easily.
The hall lit up with the help of the lights inside the cabinets, showing the different armour from bygone ages.
Freddie followed on afterwards. He walked into the space looking round, seeing the huge cases of armour encased in the glass cabinets.
" Oh My Goodness"! Freddie's mouth fell open with the amounts of armour.
" I know, right? It's easy to forget that it's all here! The history within these walls and how people perceive it, you know! Maggie smiled.
" I wonder ….. what you'd tell the children that come! " Freddie smiled.
" Shall we?" Freddie offered her arm to her, " Shall we Miss Moore … Come! " Freddie was smiling slightly, she smiled ruefully as he slowly walked about the tower with Maggie beside her walking beside him.
" We tell him that the ghosts play with the armour when we're all asleep in our beds!" She winked at him.
" You're horrible!" Freddie winked back at her playfully.
" I know right, obviously it's just for fun for them!" Maggie replied with a smile. She saw Freddie's face contort into a serious line once more she wanted to ask him why he was so serious all the time, even when he was out of uniform.
" May I ask, do you have any other siblings?" Freddie asked.
" No, no, it's just me. I'm afraid there's not another horrid Henry twin of mine!" Maggie smiled.
" So you have practically no one to talk to other than your father?" Freddie asked, continuing the conversation.
" Pretty much, yes, it's always been that ever since mum passed away!" Maggie murmured, Freddies eyes widened as she had told him, " I'm so sorry that your mother passed away!" Freddie apologised sympathetically.
Maggie discovered that she was getting feelings for him.
Every time she was in his presence, she felt a smile creep across her lips.
Her heart skipped a beat whenever she saw him.
" Have you got any other brothers or sisters?" Maggie asked.
" Yes, I have one younger brother Albert!" Freddie confessed.
" I….is he like you"? Maggie asked as they walked around the White Tower. The lights in the cabinets cast shadows of them below them.
Wandering around the White Tower, Freddie kept seeing the gilded image of her face reflecting in the glass.
Freddie felt more for this young woman.
He never met a young woman who was as ballsy as she was.
After having that fall, he just felt that instantly connected his mind wouldn't let her go.
As they walked around seeing the different armour, Freddie became entranced by her beauty. How could anyone not love a young woman who is brilliant as she is? Maggie turned to face him as she caught him staring at her, dressed in his oversized black hoodie it buried her, the smell of her scent hit him like a bolt of lightning he had not released it until then ……. But was he in love with her?
He caught up with her, “ Why are you staring at me”? Maggie asked him, Freddie didn't release the fact that he had offended her. He could not say so. Instead, he quickly made an excuse, “ I find you fascinating”! Freddie complimented her.
Maggie felt a laugh bubbling up inside her.
“ Me? Fascinating! No, there are some more fascinating tales that the beefeaters Yeoman Warders could tell you”! Maggie replied.
“ You are Maggie. Perhaps it's you that's not released. How fascinating you are”! Freddie smiled at her.
Maggie turned back to explain to him about the White Tower.
“ When I first started work here at the Tower when we first moved here before Mum died, I thought this was the Royal apartments where the Kings and Queens used to stay”! Maggie told him.
Freddie noticed she was struggling under the weight of the book that she had been .
“ Maggie! Can you manage that”? Freddie, concerned that it might be too much for her to hold, Maggie nodded silently and smiled “ I can manage ''!
Just Freddie had promised they followed the clues in the book.
Freddie looked at Maggie “ Right! Where to next”? Freddie asked.
“ Hmm, Beauchamp Tower”! Maggie replied, eyes lighting up.
“ I'm of the opinion that Henry VIII was a tyrant”! Freddie commented.
“ Hmm, he kinda was, but he only punished those who needed to be punished. Maggie replied.
“ Did Margaret Pole deserve her punishment? Because of her son! Had he come back and faced his crimes, then perhaps she would have lived”! Freddie questioned.
“ Maybe not! But if there was only one way to conveniently get rid of them”! Maggie murmured.
“ He just banished her from Court”! Freddie offered.
“ he could have! But the problem is …. If he did that, then would she have been forgiven”?
