Salt.
She's the prettiest girl in the world.
At least, I think so. I know so. The way she does anything, God, is it perfect. She has a sort of grace nobody else has. The way she enters a room and silences every other voice is so beautifully powerful.
I wonder if she knows?
I do think about the possibility of her ever admiring me like I do her... I mean, it's totally normal to notice someone's beauty! If she doesn't like me back, I totally get it! She's so infatuated with OJ, anyways. It's, like, totally understandable! I don't think about it at all, actually. Here she comes, her face absolutely shattered. I mean, to any other person, she looks completely fine, but I can read her like a book, and trust me when I say, something, or someone, just totally killed her vibe.
"Salty Salt!" I say cheerfully, trying to ignore her absolutely grief-stricken face. "What's the haps?"
"You know," she sighed, her eyes averting mine. "OJ... He's been getting more distant with me."
I nodded in a melancholic agreement. If there's one thing about Salt, it's that she won't take a hint, even if you tell her. OJ really hates her, but for some reason, she just can't seem to notice. I'd tell her, but I would never want to break her little heart. The way her eyes light up around the guy, I simply can't help but watch her. I won't lie to myself, I wish she'd look at me so. Time and time again, though, I find myself sacrificing myself for her to run to a man who refuses to even look her way.
"Hey, Pepper, you're doing that thing again," she murmured. "What's up with you, anyways? You're more out of it than me, girl."
"Totally my bad," I chuckled nervously. "I think it's the stress of OJ not seeing what he's missing out on, you know?"
"OMG, like, me too, Pepper! You'd think he's, like, blind!"
"I know! Men should really appreciate what they've got."
"Well, actually, I've heard he's actually gay. Like... he likes me-"
"Yeah, I know what that means."
"Gosh, it was just harder for me to process! Anyways, I'm at a loss, BCFF."
"I'm sorry, Salt. I'll go talk to him," I said, not exactly sure what I'd even say. I should be glad, since this would be my chance, but at the same time, I know she'd never stop chasing him. So, I did what any reasonable friend would do. I got up, and I hunted OJ down.
Not in the murdery, way, of course, but if you had saw me stomping down the hallways, you'd think I knew exactly how to hide his body. Which, I do, actually, I've thought about it! A little! It's a normal thing to think about, okay? Anyways, I catch sight of that stupid orange glass and the first thing I do is ask him, blunt and simple.
"OJ! Are you gay?"
He stopped in his tracks and nervously looked back at me. I see a bit of uncertainty in his eyes, but they're quickly hidden as he looked away.
"I don't think that's important information for your stay here, Pepper," he said with irritation.
"Give me a break! I'm only asking! It's not like I'm going to jump you," I groaned. He looked back and hesitated before giving a shy nod. Before I could even speak, he told me he was bi-curious, to be exact. Without missing a beat, I say the first thing that comes to mind.
"So you'll give Salt a chance?"
"What?!" the glass said, astonished. "You're joking, right?"
