"Maia Godoy's POV"

There were at least 6 people there, mostly men. So far, they had their backs turned to me, interested in something else. JinJoo caught my attention among all of them, which made me feel calmer. When they realized I was already in the room, they turned towards me, sitting at the long conference table. I continued walking to the spot they had instructed me to stand on.

As I looked at the faces in front of me, I felt my legs giving out completely. JONAS BROTHERS?! How did I not think of that before?! A few days ago, I had even seen that they were on tour but it hadn't sparked my curiosity until now.

One of them, with brown waves of hair, was dressed comfortably and didn't have such a friendly face. He seemed tired, probably because he had been here for a long time. Must be Nick...

In the middle sat a man who looked older. Gray hair and a bluish formal outfit. Probably their manager. He judged me with his gaze. Maybe I was shaking a little too much at that moment.

On the right side of the gray-haired man, leaned back in his chair, with a calmer face than his brother's: Kevin. He uncrossed his arms but then straightened up and gave a slight smile. I scanned the large room, trying to find that other familiar face but realized that Joe was not there.

"Good afternoon..." - the older man looked curiously at the papers in front of him before turning his attention back to me - "Maia Godoy, right?"

I exhale the air I hadn't realized I was holding. With a broad smile, I nod and begin to introduce myself.

. . .

I look at the clock, the 6 minutes that passed felt like hours. I wait for the response from the older man in front of me, who introduces himself as John. They all had neutral expressions, probably not wanting to give any hope. I see John nodding to the two brothers and then looking at me.

"Well, Maia Godoy, we appreciate your presence and good luck." - I slightly lift the corners of my mouth and thank him. I feel a tall man in a suit approach me, politely directing me to the exit. At the back of the room, I see Jinjoo smiling and raising both thumbs. For a moment, this reassures me, leaving me with the feeling that maybe everything will be alright.

I leave the room, passing through the waiting area and then open the door to the corridor. As I reach the hallway in front of the elevator, I stop to take a picture of the view. Yes, it's buildings upon buildings, but you can't help but be drawn to the urban landscape of NY.

I call the elevator which miraculously was already on the floor. While waiting to reach the ground floor, my mind is filled with negative thoughts about the audition and its future outcome. During the time I spent there, I couldn't distinguish the expressions of the men in front of me, which made me increasingly nervous. Wasn't I good enough? And if he —
The ringtone of my phone startles me. I quickly grab it from my bag and see Anna's name on the screen.

"Anna, you won't believe—"

"Maia"- is she... crying? -"can you... sleep over tonight?"

"Anna? Anna what happened?"- I worry. Anna doesn't cry easily, so something really serious must have happened.

"I- I broke up with Travis" - she says and I hear her sniffle - "He cheated on me, Maia. Cheated" - those are the only words I can hear before she bursts into tears.

"Anna, calm down! I'm coming over, Okay? I'm close by. I'll stop by the café and get your favorite dessert, is that okay?" - I try to understand what she's saying amidst the sobs but after a moment I hear her weak voice agreeing.

The elevator doors open. I hang up the phone, hurry to the exit while putting the device in my bag. As I turn, I bump into someone, who happened to be drenched. I quickly turn around, both of us seeming to be in a hurry.
