Friends

Chapter One:

Girlfriend,

Kageyama wasn't normally a social guy. He often kept to himself, despite wanting to share stories and memories with others, he could never bring himself to make friends. However, upon meeting you, it became clear to him that those qualities his former teammates berated, never posed a threat to social butterflies like yourself.

If you put in the hard work, then good results will be rewarded upon your efforts. That's how he saw it.

He wondered how many times you wished to give up, but kept going for his sake. How many times did he push you away and how many times did it finally take for him to accept you? Just like your persistent nature, your smile never faded.

He liked that about you.

"Is she not here?"

Kageyama admired you a lot. He would never say that out loud, though. He also knew that he wasn't the only one that admired you. Whether it was in a romantic or platonic way, many others had taken a liking to you.

He disliked that about you.

How you were a magnet for other people's attention. Although you never enjoyed the attention, you never tried to hide away from it. If it came to you, then you accepted it.

"No, she got called to the back of the bleachers by a freshman."

He stood there quietly before nodding and turning away. He didn't bother thanking your teammates and instead went off to find you. It was late and your daily routine was yet to be completed. He had to find you.

Soft chatter came from all around him, which would usually bring him peace, but this time it brought him anxiety. This was the fourth time this week and it was barely Tuesday. How many more confessions would you receive?

It was an endless cycle.

He stopped when he saw you come into his field of vision. Another boy stood beside you, awkwardly bowing in front of you whilst you talked to him animatedly.

"I'm sorry." He heard your voice, making his shoulders slump. Although he didn't notice, Kageyama visibly relaxed once he heard your reply to the confession. He watched the boy close his eyes and remain in his bowing position, while you walked away with a somber smile on your face.

He caught your attention almost immediately, making you furrow your brows. "Kageyama?"

Your voice brought him into a state of tranquility, a feeling only you could inflict on him. Of course, volleyball was there, but this tranquility was different. This one bore no worries or second doubts, only pure happiness and relief.

"Let's walk home together, L/n-senpai."

The quiet silence that fell upon you two made you slightly uncomfortable. It was different than usual, making you glance at Kageyama.

He was acting weird.

"How was your test?" You asked him, which made him look at you. His cheeks flushed a light pink, "It was okay. Thanks for helping me." He replied. He looked away and placed his hands inside his pockets. He wondered if you liked smart guys.

He was doomed if you did.

"No problem, you can always count on me." You told him eagerly, making the corners of his lips perk up. It was slight, but you were able to catch the motion before it went away.
