Friends,

Chapter Three,

You listened to the chatter of your team as you finished putting on your cleats. They seemed to be talking about the opposing team, who you've played countless times before. Your team always did this before a match, so you tuned them out in order to focus on your concentration.

Everyone knew you as a social butterfly, but your teammates knew you as the opposite when it came to a game day. You preferred to remain quiet and not be talked to, which they respected.

The game started in thirty minutes and it was almost time for you guys to go warm up, so you finished readjusting your hair. They turned to look at you as soon as you got up from the bench.

"Is anyone else done so we can head to the field?"

A couple girls nodded as they put their stuff away in the lockers. It was a home game, so they didn't need bags or anything. This was a little less nerve wrecking since you guys were used to playing on this field. It was the first match of the league for your team and they were equally as nervous as you were.

"Toughen up, girls. We got this." You encouraged them, which made them laugh. "Yes, captain!"

Nana hurried to your side as you nudged her side. "Are you using that move for this match?"

"I'm not sure yet." You replied, earning another nod from her. She clipped her bangs to the side and walked out of the locker rooms with you and several other girls lingering behind you. Nana sighed as the fresh air hit her face, making you mirror her actions.

"Is that tall guy coming to watch you play?" She asked you, which made you shrug. "I'm not sure, I never gave him a schedule for our games." You murmured. "Well, the matches are on our page and also on the school website. I'm sure he's also seen the posters around the school."

"He could've seen them, but he's not obligated to come. We will see." Is all you said before dropping the topic. She hummed as the two of you began warming up as soon as you got to the field. There were cones set up for practice drills, which the two of you used to your advantage.

Nana dribbled the ball and then kicked with her right as the ball flew quickly into the net. Her shots weren't bad for a defender, but anyone that played football could easily tell her approach was a little off. Still, her shots were good enough to someone that didn't shoot very often.

You were always particularly fond of her skills.

She never agreed with becoming a forward despite you asking her to several times. She could still improve her shots and become greater, but she simply refused to. She always liked defending instead. She claimed it felt better than scoring the winning point.

You dribbled the ball and kicked it up as you then used the momentum to kick the ball into the net.

It made a loud 'whoosh' sound as it hit the inside corner of the goal. There were loud cheers from the bleachers, making Nana smile proudly. The faint sound of the opposing team murmuring made her smirk. They were always shocked to see your moves.

"Captain! Coach is calling you!" Hinatsuru, another regular on the team, called out as she waved you over. You halted your kick and turned around as you jogged over to her. Nana continued practicing without you as she focused on kicking the ball out of bounds.

Once you made it to the bench where your coach sat, you rose a brow at him. "What's up, coach?"

"I was hoping you could gather the girls for a quick meeting. We need to discuss the positions I will give you and the team plays we're doing." He said, making you nod. You whistled at them loudly, making heads turn your way.
