"What are you?"
Murphy was at a loss. How should she respond? She had no idea what the girl said let alone how to communicate with her in Japanese. Murphy could tell that the girl was intimidated. Her posture said as much, so she had to proceed with caution.
"Umm, I have no idea what you just said." Murphy said slowly.
"You American?" The girl asked in broken English.
"Sure. I mean yes. Name?" Murphy said, trying to steer the conversation.
"I Suzuki, Junko." Junko said, pointing at herself as to drive the point home.
This is when Murphy finally ran into a roadblock. She had no usable first name. Murphy as her last name was fine because it was the family name but her first name needed to be made up from scratch. She saw that Junko was waiting for an introduction in return so she had to think of something fast. She could just not answer but she needed someone to teach her Japanese, and even though she doesn't mind living in the woods Murphy had much rather spend her time in a house.
Murphy pointed at herself and said, "I am Murphy, Seren Murphy. Nice to meet you Junko."
Murphy attempted a reassuring smile but it did not seem to calm the nerves of Junko who seemed more unnerved by the minute. Unfortunately, for some inexplicable reason Murphy was able to sense Junko's fear and it seemed to be energizing her. Walking forward Murphy did not expect Junko to faint into her arms. Murphy was able to hold Junko up before gently setting her against the wall.
"It is probably not the best idea to just leave a defenseless girl in the middle of the streets at night." Murphy thought, debating on her next move.

The next day was Shido's first day of training, but before any of that nonsense Shido had to go to school. The first odd thing happened during roll call. Junko Suzuki was late to class in fact she missed the entirety of first period, and half of second period. When Junko finally came to class she looked like death. Shido could see the bags under her eyes from the back of the classroom. There was an unnatural gauntness to her face, and the way she stumbled around gave him the creeps.
Tamae Okamine, the teacher, asked, "Are you alright? Why are you late?"
Junko let out an audible groan as she swayed back and forth. Shido did not fail to notice Tobiichi, the AST girl he saw yesterday, begin to frown deeply at the scene unfolding in the front of the class. In fact, it seemed as though a majority of the class were put off by Junko's unusual action.
"I just slept in... The mall fire was haunting." Junko's voice was as soft as a whisper as she finally replied to her teacher.
With that Junko turned away from her teacher and walked to her seat and sat down. The entire atmosphere of the class was thrown off by this one event. However Shido had better things to worry about. His whole world was turned over yesterday with his introduction into the world of Spirits. When class finally ended for the day Tobiichi grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the classroom. Tobiichi finally released his arm when they reached the secluded roof access door.
"Yesterday, Why were you outside?" Tobiichi asked with her regular monotone voice.
Shido stammered, "I– I was looking for my sister."
