made up her mind and laced up her shoes

Wednesday, August 31st.

The crisp autumn wind gently tousles the loose strands of your pinned hair as you stoop down, placing the final brown moving boxes onto the steps leading into the grand foyer and dining space of the building. You were still incredibly jet lagged, considering the flight from Marley to Paradis was not a short one.

A breathless sigh slips from between your lips as you stand, looking down at your phone. You were shivering a little from the cold. You didn't know that during September it was going to be this cool. In Marley, it was still shorts weather but here, it almost felt like winter. You had on gray sweats and an oversized graphic t-shirt, the air biting at your exposed arms and neck.

You searched for the information the college had sent you last week regarding your housing situation. After scrolling for minutes, still unable to find it, and now getting frustrated, you look up and take in your surroundings for the first time since you got here.

It was beautiful.

Set within a cozy campus, the scenery was simply stunning. Trees and flowers dotted the lush green lawn, and autumn leaves added a touch of color to the ground. It wasn't a large campus per se, you could see all the buildings and dorms from where you were standing, but it was undeniably beautiful.

You turn your head to your left and see multiple large brick buildings with students flowing in and out of them in an organized chaos. You assumed that's where all the classes would be held.

After giving yourself a moment to truly take in the new setting you hope to one day call home, you take a few steps and push open the large wooden doors to the main hall.

Inside, the beauty matched the outside, maybe even more so. A fancy chandelier hung from the ceiling, softly lighting up the place. The floor was decked out with comfy leather chairs and tables, and there was a big fireplace roaring away, giving off a cozy vibe, almost like a coffee shop and a cabin all in one.

Thinking of how good coffee would be right now, the smell of freshly baked foods catches your attention as you turn to your right and spot a large café with a bakery.

You were astonished. This was far better than any of the pictures you saw online. Granted you hadn't looked too hard at the images, but you were impressed nonetheless. You weren't expecting the college to look this nice, especially a college that accepted you.

Confused and honestly quite lost, you look around, trying to find some sort of check-in/front desk. It didn't seem like the universe was on your side today since much to your wishes, there was no check-in or even an authority figure in your sight.

Looking around once more, your gaze falls on two students, talking happily amongst themselves.

You didn't want to ask for help, it wasn't in your nature. You were stubborn and independent. You'd rather struggle to do something by yourself than ask for help.

However, you were determined to change that. You had moved here to start fresh, to change the habits that drove you away from your hometown. You had to start somewhere, and if that meant asking two strangers for help, then so be it.

There was one boy and one girl. The male had short gray hair, no longer than a couple of inches and he was slouched over in one of the armchairs, laughing hysterically and pointing at the girl. She stands up from her chair fuming and chucks a piece of her dessert at him. Her eyes go wide with realization while she proceeds to scream in terror and jump to the ground to pick up the fallen food, shoving it into her mouth.

Her hair, a rich shade of auburn, fell in soft waves, gathered up into a high side ponytail that accentuated her features. The two shorter strands that escaped the tie delicately framed her face, adding an extra touch to her natural beauty.
