"The 'fuck me' shoes are a little much, don't you think?" Alex greets her with a raised eyebrow and a skeptical look at her 4-inch heels. "I know it's been a while, but you do remember what a vacation is, right?"
Lena rolls her eyes at the hypocrisy because while she may be a slight workaholic, Alex was basically married to her job. "Charming as always, Alex," she snorts. "And I would hardly call it a road trip; but since you're so interested, I left my favourite—" and only "—pair of sneakers at your house." Lena motions to her Versace sneakers pushed against the wall, which she had left at Alex and Sam's after a night filled with games, booze and regret.
"Those are yours?" Alex asks rhetorically, with an accusatory scowl. She begins to mutter under her breath about tripping 'over those damn shoes a million times' and how she thought Lena was 'better than that'. Lena mentally comes up with a nice retort about the state of her kitchen after Alex and Kara had decided to make brownies, but decides to keep it to herself; otherwise, she'd be standing outside for the next 20 minutes as the two bantered.
Instead, Lena says, "Yes, they are." She then raises an eyebrow in a manner that dares her friend to object. "Now that pleasantries are out of the way, are you going to be a good hostess and let me in?"
Alex makes a big show of swinging the door open and stepping aside with a dramatic bow. "Of course, Ms. Luthor," she says with a terrible British accent. "Shall I summon the Misses while my partner makes you a cup of tea?"
Lena brushes past Alex and walks through the door. "Funny," she deadpans as she shuts the door behind her.
"YO, KAR!" Alex shouts, almost directly into Lena's ear, causing her to flinch at the sheer volume. "YOUR GIRLFRIEND IS HERE FOR HER DAILY BOOTY CALL!" she sings with a smirk.
From somewhere in the apartment, Lena can hear Kara shout back, "BE THERE IN A SECOND."
Lena sighs and gives Alex an exasperated look. "Seriously, Alex? I've been dating your sister for two years. How much longer are you going to continue to use that line for?" she asks while shaking off her right shoe.
Alex just gives her a cheeky grin. "'Until it stops being funny."
"I think the joke's run its course," Lena rolls her eyes good naturally as she contemplates throwing her heel at Alex.
Lena barely manages to take off her left shoe when an excited 15-year-old collides with her. The only thing stopping her from falling back is said 15-year-old's arms wrapped around her waist.
"Aunt Lena!" Ruby beams up at her honorary Aunt.
Lena gladly returns the hug. "Hey, Rubes," she chuckles. "You excited for our mini road trip?"
Ruby's face scrunches up in mind disgust. "Are you kidding? It'll be like carpool karaoke, but ten times as long and with my tone-deaf parental figures."
Sam, Alex's wife in all but name, walks into the room just in time to hear the tail end of Ruby's remark.
"Excuse me." Sam places her hands on her hips, playfully narrowing her eyes at Ruby. "I will have you know, Alex and I are amazing singers."
"Sure mom." Ruby gives her mother a pitiful look that has Sam gasping dramatically and Lena snickering.
Alex waltzes up to her partner. "Guess we'll just have to prove you wrong with the amazing playlist I put together last night," she grins, swinging an arm around Sam's shoulders.
Ruby's eyes widen in horror at her mother and Alex before diverting her gaze to Lena. "Help me stop this madness, Aunt Lena," she pleads. "You're my only hope."
