I Have Thoughts in the Morning

Sometimes

I have thoughts in the morning

They catch me off guard

They wake me up

Like diving into an icy lake at dawn

Sometimes

I laugh in the morning 

I laugh at my self

My thoughts

The snarky comments that grow 

In my mind like skyscrapers

Only to crumble as they remain unsaid

Sometimes

I dream in the morning

My hand flies to snooze my alarm

I lay in bed

and I think

and think

and think

In the morning I feel alive
