When Lisa climbed in through the window, she was almost falling asleep.
Upon hearing the noise, Jennie instantly became alert and reached for the fruit knife on the bedside.
"It's me."
Once Jennie heard the familiar voice, only then did she relax again, turning to look at Lisa and slightly narrowing her eyes as she let out a small yawn.
"Why are you so late?"
"I got a little delayed by something," Lisa smiled, leaning in to embrace Jennie.
Jennie furrowed her brows and leaned over, sniffing in Lisa's embrace.
Observing Jennie's expression, Lisa slightly moved back and asked, "What's wrong?"
Before Lisa could finish speaking, her collar was grabbed and forcefully pulled closer.
Jennie grabbed her clothes and sniffed again.
Lisa said, "No way, I took a shower before coming here."
Jennie let go of Lisa and pushed her away. "It's not my perfume. Where have you been fooling around? Tell me the truth, or I won't spare you."
The smile on Lisa's face faded, and she scratched her head in a somewhat helpless manner. "You can even detect this..."
Jennie snorted coldly. "I can smell a corpse from a mile away, let alone you."
Seeing Jennie's expression becoming increasingly unpleasant, teetering on the edge of erupting, Lisa took the initiative to surrender.
"It's not what you think! Rose came over for dinner today, and my niece was with her. I spent some time playing with them. Rose had a bit too much to drink and couldn't drive, so I drove them home. After that, I hurried over here." Lisa tugged at her clothes and sniffed them.
How come I couldn't smell anything at all?
"The perfume... It might have been from that time."
Jennie stared at Lisa's face, not missing any slightest change in expression.
Although she couldn't compare to Lisa in terms of investigative experience and expertise in microexpressions, Jennie could still tell if someone was telling the truth or not.
Lisa quietly sighed in her heart.
Having a genius forensic scientist as a girlfriend was truly challenging. Nothing could escape her eyes.
Lisa moved closer, half-kneeling by the bedside, and embraced Jennie, cupping her face and bringing their noses together.
"Don't you trust me?"
Jennie averted her gaze and lowered her eyes, clearly still angry.
Lisa chuckled and gently lifted Jennie's chin, making her look at her. "Do you lack confidence in yourself or in me?"
"I..." Jennie gritted her teeth. "Anyway, I won't allow you to get too close to other women, no, not even men."
Lisa laughed and brushed away a few stray strands of hair falling on Jennie's cheek, tucking them behind her ear. She then rubbed her face.
"What are you thinking? I only want to be close to you. Or perhaps..." Her eyes flickered slightly, her gaze landing on Jennie's lips.
"You find my level of closeness insufficient." Lisa continued.
Jennie instinctively covered her lips.
Here she goes again. Why did girl always take advantage of me?
