After Lisa left, Jennie couldn't sit still. She picked up her bag and intended to leave, saying, "V, I'm sorry for today's meal. I'll make it up to you another day."
V also stood up.
The situation had happened too suddenly, and he still held the chopsticks in his hand.
"Um... Jen, actually, I've been wanting to ask, are you and Lisa... together now?"
Jennie slowly turned around and looked at him, with a slightly unnatural expression on her face. "Why... why are you asking?"
V smiled bitterly and put down his chopsticks. "When you like someone, even if you won't say anything, it will always be seen in your eyes. Eyes never lie, Jen."
Jennie was someone V had watched grow up since childhood. Although they often joked around, he had never seen that kind of affectionate look in Jennie's eyes.
V was not a fool, and he had a keen understanding of worldly matters.
He had known for a long time that there was someone in Lisa's heart, but he didn't expect that person to be his beloved cousin.
Since he had said so, Jennie felt that there was no need to hide anything.
However, she felt somewhat guilty towards V. After all, Lisa has almost become her sister-in-law, wasn't she?
"I was the one who acted shamelessly in this matter. Don't blame Lisa. And as for how we got together, it was me who seduced her. Are you mad?"
V sat back down and put the cooked meat into his bowl. "Mad? My cousin stole my blind date. It's like a ridiculous melodrama, but..."
He changed the topic. "As long as you're happy. Is Lisa treating you well?"
Jennie nodded, and an unconscious sweet smile appeared on her face when V mentioned Lisa. It was the look of someone deeply immersed in love.
V pressed his lips with a tissue and picked up a piece of beef tripe. "Treating you well, and yet she left with just a phone call?"
Talking about this, Jennie also became somewhat worried.
Rose may not be great, but Lily is innocent.
"It was an urgent matter. After all, that child is her niece."
V looked up at Jennie. "And you're my only cousin."
He often said these words, whether it was when they were young and she was being mistreated by Jason, or when they grew up and Jennie broke ties with the family.
V was the only person who stood by her side.
Jennie would always remember that year when she turned eighteen. She didn't follow Xian's arranged choices for her college major, and Xian flew into a rage, threatening to kick Jennie out of the house.
V knelt down in front of Xian with a thud and pleaded, "Uncle, please don't. I only have Jennie as my cousin."
That scene would forever be etched in Jennie's heart.
Jennie smiled and said, "Tsk, acting all affectionate like a girl. I'm getting goosebumps. No matter who I'm with, I only have you as my brother."
If Jason were still alive, he wouldn't deserve that title.
After saying that, Jennie glanced at her watch. She really had to leave. "These meal is on me. See you on Friday."
V nodded silently, not saying anything further, as gentle as always. "Take care on the way."
Jennie pushed open the door of the private room and walked away.
Behind her, V put down his chopsticks, wiped his hands, and pondered over that word: Brother.
