Yips and yelps suddenly filled the night air as the sun continued to swoop below the horizon. Gummigoo and Pomni were being surrounded by the Candy Canyon's worst predator, Dulce dingos.

"Wh.. What are those!? Wolves??" Pomni whispered, hiding behind the candied croc as he peered into the short prairie bushes around them that shook and shivered with the movements of the canines.

"Dingos. Smart, fast, hungry. We won't last a minute out here, come on!" Gummi answered, before turning and running for the nearby plateau, sights set on a cavity in the side of the cliff, Pomni right on his heels. (Haha, cavity, Candy Kingdom, get it?)

The wild dogs immediately gave chase, barks and growls on either side of the two as they made a mad dash for the cave. Pomni suddenly tripped on a shrub, yelping as she braced for sharp fangs, but was only met with hands lifting her by her arms.

"Let's go, I'd rather not be dog chow!" Gummi exclaimed as he dragged Pomni to her feet and pushed her back into a sprint. Finally, they reached the cave. The mouth was a bit elevated, and Gummi had to give her a swift leg up, essentially throwing Pomni upward and she scrambled in, whipping around to see Gummi trying to heave himself up. A scrawny dingo leapt up, snapping its little pink jaws around Gummi's tail.

"OW! Son of a #!$&*!" Gummi cried, scaling the last bit of wall to get into the cave, spinning around as he tried to grab at the small canine, cursing, well, trying to, and shouting.

"Let me get i- OOF!" Pomni was cut off when the animal was sent flying into her. The rest of the pack was jumping and clawing at the entrance, but were unable to clear the ledge's height. Gummi gave a sigh of relief at that, but paused when he heard Pomni cooing, turning to see her leaning to try and pet the very beast that had just bitten him!

"What are you doing with that thing? It'll nip you!" Gummi immediately raced over, picking up the animal by its scruff, holding it away from Pomni worriedly. The candy creature squirmed and growled, yipping and baring unmenacing teeth.

"It doesn't seem that bad-" Pomni began, but winced when Gummi screamed, the little animal's teeth sunken into his hand.

"You little bugger!" Gummi shouted, shaking his arm wildly in attempt to release himself from the mouth of certain death and absolute destruction. Pomni just sighed, watching the ordeal. Soon enough, he unlatched the dingo from his hand, and the creature scampered off into a darker corner of the cave. Gummi rubbed his hand with a grumble. A sedated problem, for now.

"That was.." Pomni began watching as he started to gather sticks strewn around the cave, pulling a vile out from under his hat, sprinkling it on the pile of sticks which puffed to life with a small fire.

"Exciting," Gummi finished her statement as he turned around, hands clasped as he smiled that toothy grin of his sarcastically.

"Not sure if that's the word I was looking for.. but sure." Pomni sighed as she plopped down on the cool red dirt next to the fire, watching it deeply. "Will we even live long enough to get back?"

"Oi, don't you get to thinking too hard again. We'll be back to our respective parties in no time. By midday." Gummi said when he saw her downed look, sitting down beside her. A small flash of deja vu crossed his mind, now it was his turn to be comforting her from less than happy go lucky thoughts. A fair trade.

Pomni offered a small smile, but just looked back to the flames, resting her chin on her knees. This day was a lot for a first real adventure.. nearly worse than the last..

Gummi frowned and tilted his head to see her face. "Chin up mate. What happened to the optimism from earlier.. down there?" He asked, referring to the strange space under the map, where their small excursion with each other began. "Don't tell me I sapped it all up?" He chuckled dryly, trying to get her to laugh with a careful nudge of his arm to hers.

Pomni looked up, and finally let loose a small smile, which Gummi returned smugly, flaunting his success. "No, I don't just give away stuff for free, especially not my optimism." She answered.

"Well, what about hugs?"
