Slumbering Through Time

CHAPTER 2

August 15, 2023

It's been two weeks since Minji spoke with her sister, who's currently in Europe for an appointment while she's back again at her infamous art gallery staring at the usual painting. She must be delusional but it just relieves her stress every time she exchange glance with the said art. After a few minutes of staying there, the lady finally got the urge to check her watch, 8:35 AM, time for her to go. The chairman got inside her car and drive home. She's not going to work today she had already informed Yena and is confident the duck will look after the company.

Today is a very special day, as Minji arrived home she went straight to the kitchen and started cooking, she'll make this the most delectable meal than the one last year she had prepared. After cooking, the latter carefully placed it in a paper box to ensure that it won't spoil as she immediately took a shower, changed, ate, and brushed teeth. After placing the two paper boxes inside a paper bag and two cans of royal from the fridge, separating them because they might get wet. Minji headed out, not to mention she also brought a green bouquet.

12:05 PM, the time of her arrival here in the cementery. Today is the 25th death anniversary of that girl.

Kang Haerin
1982 - 1998

The grown lady let out a deep sighed as she caresses her grave.

"Hey Haerin, I'm here again I made your favorite meal that you often eat, for sure it's more delicious than the one last year and also I wore this matching your color, green. Your birthday is almost coming it hurts thinking that we didn't make it to your birthday. I have tons of gifts for you, only for you and look at this cute little cat toy it looks like you, I've been keeping this for 9 months now I'd always put it besides me when I'm sleeping so that I won't feel lonely HAHAHA you know I've been stress recently about the company but luckily I still managed to keep it in line, if only you were alive right now I'm pretty sure you would go to that art gallery everyday, there are tons of beautiful arts display like the starry nights you always told me how much you love that art and nature paintings... I wonder how it is like in the after life, did you suffer there or it's better than here in this cruel world. I'm so sorry Haerin I couldn't save you the world don't deserve how kind you are. Did you know I've attempted to publish books and If only I can then I would fill a whole book just to tell how much I feel about you... But you won't be able to see it. Why would you leave so early Haerin I thought we'd go out to the amusement park with the girls I regret not cherishing every moment with you, I regret it alot that I prayed day and night wishing that If there could be chance to see you again, I would do anything just to see you again... Haerin...

She sighed deeply, her chest felt released now. The lady placed the paper box and royal can on her grave while eating the other one, those were Haerin's favorite not particularly healthy but Haerin was still a baby that time. Minji began telling her stories about her daily life, her favorite band, how much she misses Haerin and asking her about the girls she used to hang out with, just about everything. Hours had already passed which the latter just realized it was already 3:56 PM.

After she finished packing her stuffs the black haired lady got up and bid her farewells. However before the latter could walk away she halt at the sight infront of her, there stood a woman in her 40's with a white boutique in her hand. They both made eye contact, speechless by the unexpected appearance.

"What is that" Minji followed the woman's gaze which apparently landed on the paper box.

"It's for Haerin" The woman in black coat furrowed at Minji's response.

"What the fuck? She can't eat that" complains her.

"I am honoring her anniversary" Defended Minji making the woman irretated more.

"You can simply leave her flowers, who will clean up your mess if a homeless person wreck havoc here?" The woman said calmly yet her tone lowkey sounds sarcastic.

"Did it happened once?"
"Multiple times already, the recent one was last year"
"I'm not at fault here, the workers are responsible for it if they don't want to clean up such mess they shouldn't let people wreck havoc someone's belongings" The intense atmosphere between the two of them is contagiously dangerous, them glaring at each other can probably destroy 3 islands.

"What the fuck is wrong with you did you even realized you're making life harder for them?!" She brushes her hair, rolled her eyes as her blood begins boiling seeing the sight of Minji.

"You're not paying them to clean your ass Minji" The taller sighed as she thought their bickering wouldn't end if none of them will lower their self, Minji ignored the angry woman and continued walking until she passes her.

"Also what's up with the food inside that? Haerin's favorite meal? get a grip man she's dead she won't be able to ea-" The shorter wasn't be able to continue her words when Minji grab her collar aggressively, the look in her unnie's eyes were visibly hurt that made her stunned.

"She's more than just a dead person, Danielle" Minji's tone changed, causing Danielle to halt for a second however that didn't stop her from arguing her side.

"Wow you act like you care so much about her seriously after leaving us Minji?" She gently removed Minji's hand out of her collar. The older didn't respond, her heart is burning rapidly it feels like her hands are starting to numb.

"You're such an asshole, Danielle" Minji's tone were heartbreaking, it's shaking that made Danielle finally shut her mouth. She realized she crossed the line.

Two people arguing in denial, one hasn't accepted one's death yet while other one got carried by the past emotion.

11:32 PM

*DUG* Minji aggressively close the door, she is currently in her car the latter has been drinking since 5 PM causing her to appear so drunk that the sight of a paper started tilting 'wow I must've been crazy' she thought as she twisted the car key turning the engine on, despite being so drunk she still have the urge to fight the dizziness when she could've just call Yena to pick her up.

She began driving, it was dark and the only source of light comes from her car with no other vehicles around since the latter is currently located at a forest. She drank at a bar quiet far from the populated city to insure her mind feels at ease but going back home is a bit troublesome.

*Blink* The sleepiness and dizziness emerged, the lady tried to pull herself up for her safety.

*Blink* Minji slapped herself thinking she must need to stay alive.

*Blink* She opened her phone to make a phone call but there is no signal, such a bad luck.

*Blink* Again she blinked but this time she accelerated her car, needing to hurry because the woman couldn't take it any longer 'I'm in the middle of a forest there wouldn't be anyone crossing here so it should be fine, and it's almost already 1 AM who would be stupid enough to stay up this late' she continued to go on without slowing her car, the lady needs to reach to the nearest gas station asap to get Yena to pick her up.

*Blink* The moment she blinked a light appeared closely to her, it was just one blink but she saw it clearly, her eyes widened, a huge truck? No it's a bus. What is a bus doing there in the middle of the night? Where is it heading to? Due to the speed and impact, both vehicle out balanced. Minji hurriedly turn right while the bus turn left and with that she got crash on a tree...

MINJI'S POV

*Cough* Uhh... Did I passed out? My head is spinning and my eyesight are blurry.

A light? Is it coming from a vehicle?

Someone pls... Hel-

I can't breath ahh

Something is pressed under my stomach

"What the fuck is going on"
