Gatewater Hotel - Room No. 456 ~ Niamh Wood's POV

"Take a melody,
Simple as can be
Give it some words and
Sweet harmony
Raise your voices
All day long now
Love grows strong now
Sing a melody of love
Ooh, love..."

"WH-?!" I shot up, almost dizzy from moving too fast. I glanced around, taking in my surroundings until finally realizing...

(Oh. I'm... in the hotel room.)

Everyone else was out, so it was just me, casually sleeping on the sofa. That's how I liked things here. Especially with this family. Heh, 'family'. As if!

Ugh, why did Dr. Cyanide have to put me with these people?! My 'older siblings' are always picking on me! All the time! Calling me a midget, poking me in the middle of the night... They even hid my Zelda edition 3DS XL for a day! THAT IS A SERIOUS CRIME IN AND OF ITSELF! NOBODY TOUCHES MY PRECIOUS GAMING CONSOLES! NOBODY!

But a more urgent thing bothers me: that dream. That song! I'd started hearing it after the Wintermarble Village case. Almost every night, I'd hear a woman sing that song. But who was it?

I mean, Aunt Harriet never sang me any lullabies, and even if she did, that wasn't her voice. The voice in my dream was... deeper, but more gentle... if that makes any sense whatsoever.

So that just begs the question: where could I have gotten that song from...?

I thought as hard as I could... but eventually got bored, so I reached for my phone and checked my Instagram.

After liking all the various photos my friends had posted, I moved to my Contacts list and sent James a quick text.

'Hey, you free today? Bored as HELL...'

If he was free today, I wouldn't have to spend all day moping inside this dumb hotel.

Instead of texting me back, though, James tried to call me. I shrugged and answered it, putting the phone to my ear.

"Hey!" I yelled as I usually did.

"Is that you, Niamh?!" the voice on the other end cried.

(This.... isn't James...)

"D-D-DETECTIVE GUMSHOE?!" I screamed, pretty embarrased. Looking back now, I'm pretty sure the other guests thought there was a murder or something.

"Whoa, calm down, pal!" The detective said. "Do you always try to break people's ears over the phone?!"

"Depends who it is!" I replied. "More importantly, why do you have James' phone?!"

"Well, it's in police custody right now-"

"WHAT?!"

"-And I didn't want to leave you hanging, especially since he can't answer his phone right now..."

(He... can't answer...?)

"Where are you, Detective?!" I cried, standing up and grabbing my hotel keys.

Unfortunately, Detective Gumshoe appeared to have caught on. "Oh, no, I'm not telling you! You'll just come on over and do as you please!"

"B-But...!"

"This is my final warning, pal: stay home!"

I didn't reply. I merely swallowed down my tears.

"But...." the detective continued, rekindling my hope. "You don't need to worry about James. He's fine."
