Nothing meant more to Libby Phoenix than knowing that she was number one.
She strived to make the best grades—to be the top of her class. Happiness was nothing if not guaranteeing that her name was on the top of every class rank that was typed into existence. She worked hard to make sure that she never got anything less than an A.
Which is why when Demetri Alexopoulos claimed the number one spot, Libby made a promise to herself that she would work even harder to make sure that there was never a two next to name ever again. The task proved to be harder than any test she had ever taken.
One moment, Libby's name was number one then next, Demetri had claimed the title once again. Libby was not willing to give up so easily. Especially not to the likes of Demetri Alexopoulos. Libby would not settle for second best. She couldn't. Who would she be if she wasn't the top of her school? If she didn't have perfect grades then who was she?
The constant back and forth competition to be the best soon migrates outside of academics and grades. When karate becomes popular amongst the Valley, Libby finds herself competing with Demetri to become the best fighter they can be.
Add the fact that Libby finds herself falling in love with Demetri to the mix—something that should be statistically impossible—and you have a mathematics equation that cannot be solved. The battle for West Valley High School's top student is about to get a lot more complicated.

notes. okay i'm being impulsive by publishing this but i could not resist. i loved the idea of academic rivals to lovers so i just had to.
i wanna preface by saying that libby is a flawed character and that will be evident throughout the fic. i just felt that it was necessary to say this.
