"Hannah," I call as I open the front door, strolling in, my mind a bit on alert.

The entire place echoes. I threw my newly dry-cleaned, Sean John walking coat and suit on the table and did a fast scope around trying to not worry.

"Hannah!" I shout this time, the eerie quietness is getting to me.

Still no answer I run up the stairs knocking on the door of her bedroom. Is she that heavy of a sleeper? I knocked again, hoping she was today but still, no answer.

Taking out my phone, I press down on her contact, while I did a fast search of the massive house. I hear no ringing inside her room, so I run back downstairs and out the front door. Where the heck is she? I still didn't know how long V would be and yes, I was in a panic.

Hannah is in danger.

I had just received the message on my phone as I stood in front of the driveway, here less than a minute back. Not death but a close call. We are always notified when our mortals are in any type of danger. We are to protect them until their deaths. Their natural deaths, for that is their destiny because of Wolf. Their Karma is clean.

She did not answer, so I dialled again, running out the door, scratching a non-existent itch on my scalp. This time she does answer, and I hear music in her background. I stop my running and bend over on the pavement, to catch my breath. She was safe so far. I released a deep sigh when she said, "Hello?"

One, two breaths- I'm good. I'm not out of breath as my stamina is impeccable so why am I acting this way? I frown at my own actions that I do not understand. It was a human thing to...why am I acting mortal-like?

Straightening to my full erect height, I place a hand on my slim waist after opening the two buttons of my scarab-green jacket.

She sounds safe too and this eases my mind. For now, anyway. But she would be in danger for the next twenty-four hours. My toes ache a bit in the shoes now. Yes, I feel the dull ache but we demons, have a high pain tolerance. Sort of like mortal men- babies when they have a cold but can withstand a fistfight? Sigh.

"Hello? What do you want?" Hannah's voice was now lightly irritated when I did not answer her, 'hello'.

These shoes were not made for running. Raising one foot I rotate it. And suits weren't made for sweating either- not that I perspire a lot. More precisely, I glisten.

Peeling the jacket off, I place it over my forearm, signing loudly when I see my restaurant in the distance. I'd used my demon ability and was in the café section of a scarcely crowded mall, lower down the street, from my business, where Hannah usually hangs out with her friends.

Nobody noticed I'd suddenly appeared out of thin air, and I continued walking to my establishment even though I'd just informed my staff that I'd be gone for the rest of the evening.

"I can hear you breathing-"

"Yeah, sorry. Just trying to catch my breath," I cut her off before she says something like- 'you stalker' and then get embarrassed when I tell her – well what I just told you.

"Oh, I- I'm sorry," she started and went silent as I kept on talking. See? I told you. I want to prevent this.

"Where are you?"

"Uh, I'm actually at the restaurant with my friends." Her voice is meek.

"Oh, I'm almost there-"

"You are? Ah- no don't come-"

See I told you I will prevent the embarrassment. No, I wasn't breathless because of my running, it is because I am relieved, that she is okay. I was in such a panic that I forgot to drive, and I was bolting down the road with my demon speed.
