Hammocking

Annabeth dragged Percy into the woods, grinning and insisting that it would be fun. Percy wasn't convinced. What's so fun about laying around in hammocks together?

After flattering the nymphs for a while- "your tree just looks so strong, we figured it wouldn't hurt-" the couple was granted permission to set up their hammocks.

"Do you need some help with that?" Percy asked, grinning at Annabeth who was struggling to knot her hammock around the tree trunk. His hammock, the color of the camp shirts, was already set up. Apparently, being the son of the sea god meant that knot tying came easily to him.

"No," Annabeth said indignantly. "I've got it."

Percy nodded and watched her blond curls fall in front of her face, yet again, and stop her from being able to see her fingers. She shoved it behind her ear with  a huff of annoyance only for it to block her view only moments later. Percy laughed. She was really cute when she was mad.

He got up from his hammock and swept her hair over her forehead, holding it back so she could have a fair chance at being independent. Percy had learned his lesson about helping her when she didn't want it. Multiple times.

Heat rose in Annabeth's cheeks as Percy rested his chin on her shoulder. He was a few inches taller so he had to bend down to do it, but that made it all the more endearing to Annabeth. She side-eyed him and threw her hands up indignantly. "Alright, fine. You do it."

Percy grinned and kissed the pink of her cheeks. Then, he wrapped his arms around her waist and grabbed the cords, tying them to the tree securely in seconds without ever letting his eyes stray from her face.

"Show off," she muttered. Annabeth crosses her arms on mock annoyance and felt Percy's lips twitch into a smile against her cheek.

"What? No 'thank you?' No 'what would I do without you, Percy?' No 'you're the best boyfriend ever, I'm so lucky to have you, Percy?'" He raised an eyebrow. "Not even a kiss to show your gratitude?"

Annabeth rolled her eyes. "So needy," she mumbled, turning around to gave him, but pecked him on the lips as best she could while smiling.

When she tried to pull away, Percy leaned into the kiss and tightened his grip around her waist. Annabeth's arms snaked around his neck. He forced her back against the tree and the kiss deepened.

"Hey!"

A new voice startled them both and they broke apart. Percy stumbled backward and pulled Annabeth on top of him.

"I agreed to letting you hammock on my tree! Making out was not a part of the deal!" The little nymph, who was unfortunate enough to live in the tree they'd been leaning against, said indignantly.

Annabeth's face went as red as Percy's ears. She squeaked, "Sorry."

Annabeth pushed herself off of Percy's thigh and brushed herself off, then offered a hand to her boyfriend and helped him up as well. Her gray eyes met Percy's. He widened his eyes and tried to suppress a smile while Annabeth bit her lip to keep from laughing, but neither attempt worked and they busted up.

As their laughter subsided, Annabeth let herself fall back into the orange hammock and closed her eyes. A sigh escaped her lips, swollen pink from the kiss... es.

"Is that all we're doing? We just... lay there?" Percy asked.

"It's called relaxing, Seaweed Brain. You should try it!" Annabeth said.

He raised an eyebrow, but reluctantly scrambled into his own hammock and mimicked his girlfriend's sigh. When he did it, however, it came out much more dramatic.

"Shut up," Annabeth said with an eyeroll.

"I'm bored," he moaned.

She stuck her head up from the hammock. "Alright, listen. Just close your eyes and listen to the wind or think of whatever makes you happy. It's nice, trust me."

Still skeptical, Percy closed his eyes. Immediately, Annabeth's face filled his mind's eye, but rather than the wind, the sound of her laughter echoed in his ears. The way the hammock moved reminded him of a boat at sea. Before he knew it, the gentle rocking of the hammock lulled him into sleep. For once, his dreams weren't haunted by nightmares.

"You drool when you sleep."

Percy yawned and blinked sleep from his eyes.

"I think you may have mentioned that before," came Percy's groggy reply. "You're the only one who's been bothered by it. Then again, that could be because you're the only one who watches me when I'm asleep."

Annabeth gasped and slapped his arm, ears going red. "Percy! You can't say things like that!"

He shrugged and grinned up at her mischievously. "Well, it's true!"

"Percy," Annabeth moaned.

In response, he sat up and grabbed her by waist, then pulled her on top of him. Annabeth shrieked happily as the hammock shook and nearly tipped them both out. She put her hands on either side of his face and kissed him again.

The sides of the hammock folded up around them. Percy's hands were on her waist and Annabeth's were in his hair.

"Y'know what?" Percy said when they broke apart to catch their breath. "I think I like hammocking."

Annabeth grinned and shook her head. "Just shut up and kiss me, Seaweed Brain."

"As you wish, my Wise Girl."

Suddenly, the hammock flipped upside down and both of them were knocked to the ground. Their breath escaped in one breath as they landed on the grass. Hard. Annabeth yelped as Percy landed on top of her.

"I said making out is not allowed!" The little tree nymph huffed and flicked her wrist. The cords of the hammock untied themselves and it collapsed to the ground.  The nymph stuck her tongue out at the couple and retreated inside her tree.

Percy looked at Annabeth. Annabeth looked at Percy. Silence ensued. Neither was sure whether to laugh or not, afraid to summon the nymphs wrath for a third time in a day.

Finally, Percy broke the silence and said, "I think you bit my tongue."
