The next morning Berrypaw was awoke by the sound of yowling. She jumped up immediately, clearly startled, the current deputy was dead. The yowl came from his mate, she was mourning beside his body.
The clan leader rose up on the Clan rock. “I know we will all miss Stone, he was an outstanding warrior, and a great deputy” Their leader, Burrow, Thorns father began. “But we must remain strong, and now I must choose a new deputy” Burrow then looked around the crowd of cat’s, Berrypaw shuffled her feet with worry had Thorn actually done what he said he would do?
She thought with worry. “Actually, on second thought, I am on my last life, I am close to passing to starclan.” Berrypaw looked over to Thorn who then smirked, “I will retire, your new leader is Thorn” Burrow declared. The whole crowd mumbled both good and suspicious comments. “Tonight he will make his trip to highstones, and meet starclan. Now, Thorn, we need a new deputy, who will it be?” Burrow meowed.
“My deputy will be Berrypaw, and since she is deputy now, she will be known as Berrypelt from now on. In honor of the color that she is.” Thorn declared proudly. The Crowd then began chanting the name, “Berrypelt, Berrypelt, Berrypelt!”
Berrypelt then repeated her own name, then made her way up to join her new leader. “I vow to serve you, all of you, even if it costs me my life!” Berrypelt Mewed. Thorn then looked at Berrypelt and smiled. At that moment she knew this was who she was going to have her kits with.
