"Come on, Liam, we can't be late," I urged, checking my watch for the millionth time. The reservation was at one of those places that didn't take kindly to tardiness, and I wasn't about to miss our chance. New York was a far cry from Portland Oregon, and every moment here felt like living in a movie.

The restaurant was a cozy Italian bistro tucked away on a side street, a hidden gem amidst the rush of the city. It was our first night in the city and we were still getting used to the time change.

In the middle of our dinner, a man approached our table. He introduces himself as a producer for a new TV show, a Mafia drama set in the 90s. "Have you ever acted before?" he asks, his eyes on me. "Are you, by any chance, Italian?"

I'm taken aback. I've done a few community theater shows, but nothing major. I glance at Liam, who's already shaking his head. "It's a dumb idea," he mutters. But something inside me stirs. I'm intrigued, excited even.

"Yes, I am Italian," I responded, meeting the producer's gaze. "And I'll consider your offer." The producer smiles, handing me a card with a scan code. "Use this to sign up for the audition," he says.

"Thank you" I smiled as the man left

Liam was cautious, his protective instincts kicking in. "Isn't this a bit sudden?" he asked, his voice tinged with skepticism. I could feel his concern, but the excitement bubbling within me was undeniable.

He left his card and a trail of questions flooded through my mind. Liam's hand found mine, his touch a silent conversation. "Alex, are you sure about this?" he asked, his eyes searching mine for doubt.

I looked back at him, my heart a mix of nerves and hope. "I don't know, Liam," I admitted. "But maybe... maybe it's worth exploring."

The night air was crisp as we left the restaurant, the city's energy pulsing around us. We were a world away from home, but as we walked through the streets of New York, I couldn't shake the feeling that this city might just be the start of something new.

"You going to audition for it?" Liam asked as we walked back to our hotel.

"I don't know, maybe. I'll look it up when we get back to the hotel."

Liam just shook his head "It's probably BS and something they do to all the pretty girls who aren't New Yorkers"

"Maybe, but it's worth a shot you never know"

I looked it up that night and found that the audition was legit. I signed up. It was for the second to last day of our trip. Liam was already going to go to a video game museum I had no interest in so I planned to go when he was going to that.

We spent the next few days exploring New York as days led up to the audition. I had been to New York as a kid but it was different coming to a place like this as an adult. We saw a broadway show the night before the audition and it only made me miss acting again. I was excited for the next day to audition for the role. I had looked up a little about the show. I dressed the closest I could to the character. Liam was going to go to the video game museum then meet me at the audition later. He walked with me to the audition. It was actually not far from our hotel.

"Have fun, still can't believe you're doing this" He said and gave me a good luck kiss

"Why not I'm here, the worst they could say is no. Especially because I can't to a good New York Italian accent"

I got into the already long line of women trying for the role and Liam said to text him if I needed anything.

As I waited in line, I spoke with the other girls.
