HADLEY WALKS THROUGH the woods with Spencer, Emily, Aria, and Hanna. She walks next to Spencer as the other three girls walk ahead of them. Hanna immediately begins to complain, which is predicted by Hadley and Spencer.

"Whose idea was this again?" Hanna questions.

"Emily's mom." Spencer points out in an in-fact tone, tightening her grip on Hadley's hand slightly as she purses her lips.

Emily exhales softly, speaking with a gentle tone as she keeps walking ahead of the rest of them. "The shed was me, my mom just said we should do something for us." She speaks as they walk through the woods.

"Well, couldn't we do something without mosquitoes?" Hanna fires back.

"They're not mosquitoes, they're gnats." Aria corrects.

Hanna sighs in frustration, pressing her lips together before walking behind Aria and Emily to match their pace. "Whatever, they're small, annoying and they're flying up my nose."

"Well, they're attracted to your perfume. And your hair product. And your lip gloss." Spencer informs her.

Hanna narrows her eyes, glancing back at Spencer and Hadley. She glances between them, seeing how Hadley tries to keep herself from laughter. She has always known that Hadley and Spencer are on each other's side first. They are each other's first priority. Which always managed to irritate Alison, hence why Alison and Spencer constantly argued.

"So, what are you saying? I attract flies?" Hanna questions.

Aria glances back at the blonde Marin girl, smiling slightly. "Gnats." She corrects once again before turning back to Emily.

Hadley and Spencer share a look, smiling widely as they try to keep their laughter in.

"Why do I feel like this is the wrong way?" Emily furrows her eyebrows slightly, suddenly stopping in her tracks.

"No, this is it. I remember that tree." Spencer speaks up, pointing at a tree. "It's the halfway point. There's 136 steps left to the shed."

Emily stares over at Spencer, slight suspicion in her gaze. "Have you been out here since Alison?" She questions before glancing between Spencer and Hadley, knowing if Spencer went, then Hadley definitely went too. They are hard to separate and always have been.

"Me? No. No way." Spence protests, tightening her grip on Hadley's hand.

Aria points at the tree, still keeping her eyes on Spencer. "But you remember that tree." She points out, growing suspicious too.

"It's just a tree. Easy to remember." Hadley defends Spencer.

Hanna nods in agreement. "Yes, Hadley's right. It's not that weird. I mean, we came out here in eighth grade, like, every day. Even after."

Spencer glances over at the tree but glances over at Emily as she speaks. "I think this is totally the wrong place to do this, whatever you call it, shrine." She glances softly over at Hadley before looking back at Emily.

Emily looks defensive. "It's not a shrine, it's just a place to remember Alison." She glances over at Aria before looking back at Spencer. "What's wrong with that?"
