I hate learning, especially learning about my family history. Greek history is honestly the most confusing thing to ever exist and now I remembered why I failed the subject last year.
But the cool thing I learnt was that I could read and understand Greek without even needing to use Duolingo!
Seungmin was surprisingly very patient with me and he actually found my intrusive thoughts hilarious instead of being creeped out by it like others.
That's not to say I'm going to be looking forward to my next meeting with him just because he finds me funny.
Thankfully he's really busy for the rest of the week so the next time I'm going to see him for learning is next week.
I had spent so much time studying and learning that by the time I managed to escape the wrath of different gods and goddesses, it was already time for dinner.
Everyone bustled into the open campfire ground and sat at tables whilst I stood in the middle like a lost duck.
Felix came to me,"Right, it's your first night at camp soo you have to sit with your new siblings, they're that table with the laughing, crying kids on it," he pointed towards the most...interesting table with some kids doing weird dances and laughing like a pack of wild hyenas.
Suddenly I didn't feel so hungry anymore, maybe Seungmin would be open to just hang out with me for no reason...
My hopes were destroyed when I saw Seungmin sitting down with a bunch of kids holding books and maps, he gave me a small wave but I couldn't bring myself to wave back so I settled for a smile that I hope didn't look that forced.
Felix had also ditched me after telling me where to sit so now I truly looked like a lost duck.
I quickly made my way to the crazy table and I was immediately met with people screaming and hugging me.
After like 2 minutes of celebration everyone went back to what they were doing as if they didn't just hold an impromptu party.
I guess the confusion was clear on my face cos a guy who had long hair and in my opinion looked a bit emo smiled at me," Yep this is actually really normal around here, nice to meet you, my name is Beomgyu and you are?"
I forgot how to talk so it took me a couple of seconds to process what he said," OH! name right, my name is Yang Jeongin nice to meet you too,"
He laughed a bit and motioned for me to sit down next to him. Everyone was eating food and the only thing I had in front of me was a plate.
After a couple of minutes of attempting to eat the actual plate Beomgyu had decided it was the perfect time to explain how to get food.
"Okay, Jeongin please stop trying to eat the plate just imagine whatever you want to eat and behold it shall appear, man that felt so cool to say," he mumbled the last bit under his breath.
"Anything I want?"
"Absolutely anything,"
I thought long and hard and I finally decided, holding the plate right in front of me I shut my eyes and imagined the food I wanted.
"Why the hell is there an egg on your plate?!"
Yesss my wish came to life.
"And oh my gods is it raw?" How dare he judge me for my food choices? I didn't judge him for eating a cake for dinner so why was he complaining about my raw egg??
I opened my eyes and saw his baffled face and turned my head away from him.
"Okay, go to the campfire and you know what to do, I'm going to try to get these idiots to separate before they break our table again ughh," Beomgyu ditched me and I guess he forgot that I didn't know what to do at the campfire because he didn't bother explaining or asking someone to explain it for me.
I slowly walked to the campfire and distinctly recalled Seungmin telling me that we sacrifice food to our godly parents or something, so I was about to chuck my whole plate into the fire before.
"WAIT!! STOP RIGHT THERE!" I turned around to see who the hell decided to stop my plate throwing ritual.
"What in the name of Olympus do you think you're doing?" The incredibly rude guy yells at my face.
Now if I weren't so angry I would've actually beat a loss for words because this guy looked like he never had a bad skin day AT ALL.
Anyways back to the yelling fest.
"What in the name of the Olympic Games do you think you're doing?"
"In the name of what?"
"Olympic Games, that's what you said right?"
"Ooohh, you're the new kid aren't you," the guy smiles at me, dang, the duality.
"Is that my new name around here?New kid?" That was just sad, nobody wants to be known as the new kid at any school, camp or whatever.
"Don't worry it'll only stick until the next new kid comes, my name is Hyunjin son of Demeter, nice to meet you,"
"Jeongin, son of Dionysus," I learnt from Seungmin that when you introduce yourself to other campers who aren't part of your cabin, you're actually meant to say your godly parent as well.
"Well then Jeongin, the reason I stopped you was because you're not meant to throw the actual plate in, just part of your food," he explains, now that made more sense than sacrificing a magical plate.
But there was still one teeny tiny issue.
"How am I meant to sacrifice a part of my egg?"
"Well it's a boiled egg right? So you can just half it or-"
"It's raw, not boiled," I cut him off.
"Why were you going to eat a raw egg in the first place?" Judgy McJudgerson asked me.
"That's something for me to know and for you to never find out," I grabbed my egg and whispered,"For Dionysus," and chucked my egg into the fire as light purple flames bounced around.
I prepared to leave with a huff but then Hyunjin grabbed my hand.
"Hey look I'm sorry, I shouldn't judge you for your taste in food no matter how concerning they are, but I was hoping that we could become friends?" He gave me hopeful eyes that looked a lot like puppy eyes that I've seen on TV.
I couldn't say no because I would feel immensely guilty so I just nodded and offered a smile that I hope looked welcoming enough.
It seemed to have worked because a second later Hyunjin cheered loudly and hugged me so tightly to the point I couldn't breathe.
"Do you have anything on for tomorrow?" Hyunjin asked.
"Uhh I don't think so...," I ponder.
"Then would you be free to help me in the gardens tomorrow? Everyone else apparently has better things to do with their lives and I really don't want to do it on my own," he pouted and I hesitantly agreed, I mean at least I was making some friends.
"Really?! I'll come to your dorms after breakfast alright?" Before I could say anything he waved and ran off to his table.
Man, today was a very confusing day.
